Time to look forward to Saturdays game with Bromley. It does seem they don't like us! Why could that be?
After 24 hours of mourning it is time to pick ourselves up, re-focus and get ready for a MASSIVE game next Saturday....
Here's 10 reasons why we should be loud and proud and turn out in numbers against Sutton...
1) It's Sutton. We hate Sutton. Possibly more than Wimbledon.
2) It's probably the biggest game between the 2 sides for 20+ years
3) We could be top of the league if we beat them and it's all about the league now
4) They beat Coventry in the FA Cup 250 years ago
5) Since then they have had delusions of grandeur but we have knocked them out of the Cup on the last 3 occasions we have met
6) Gwynne Berry, Nigel Golley, Jimmy Dack, Gareth Howells and Eddie Akumoah used to play for them
7) Ali Fuseini currently plays for them (if Swaibu had still been there that would have been my main motivation to turn them over)
8) Frankie Coles and Sean Devine's dad almost started a riot there in about 1991
9) Richard Cherry's winning goal there seconds after missing a penalty will be a moment I remember for the rest of my life
10) They messed us around on Boxing Day last year as to whether the game was on
REALLY want us to win this one, means more to me than any cup run.
My team to do the job:-
Carey Pooley Swaine Holland Anderson PJD Waldren Smith Swallow May Goldberg
BROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM

Gotta admit the goal I have celebrated the most as a Sutton fan was the winner last year in the 4-3 game . Hopefully we can turn out in numbers as well and give some strong vocal support to help the team to a vital win.

Blimey, they have only knocked us out of the cup 3 times in the last 250 years, not a great record.
Delusions of Grandeur? I had one of them once but it had nothing to do with football or is that something else?
Re point 10 - I know we are Gods but even we can't control the consequences of the weather sometimes. Or is that a Delusion of Grandeur?
If I had 10 reasons to beat Bromley on Saturday could I be arsed to list them? Answers on a postcard with a Bromley postmark please. Or is it Bromerley?

Brilliant. Anything that adds a bit of spice to a game is fine by me no matter how half arsed. This reads like one of those private eye lists
Ten reasons why we hate sutton
1. They are sutton 2. They aren't Bromley 3. Errrr 4. Will that do?
They are a right it's a massive game for both sides though and another one to look forwards to.

Would love us to match our away support for this one. Bromley will be vocal so hope it can be a cracking game and atmosphere. Sure to be a few newcomers and neutrals. 3 points here would put us right in amongst it with Eastleigh up next.

Point 8 was my first sutton game that has had me coming ever since! What happened? If memory serves me correctly, Coles was sent off but rather than walk off - which he started to do - he turned back and went for Mark Golley, sparking a mass brawl. Not sure what happened after - if anything. Coles did get his own back as it was his goal that knocked us out of the FA cup in 1996.

Ah yes was at that game I believe but didn't recall it as Bromley. Did Mark Golley get in trouble a bit? Did he also play for Bromley at some stage? Brother Nigel was great, always shouts of 'get up Nige' as he went up to win another header. I was only 10 then. I think that and the one where ref lost control of our game vs ks where it was actually suspended stick in the mind for player trouble.

Did devines dad start a fight in the tunnel afterwards. I am pretty sure I was there and I've got a feeling it all kicked off in the tunnel and possibly the dressing rooms. May have been another game and I also think that might have been the Bromley game where a small group of their fans hung about and fronted us up in the car park as we headed from the bar to the plough. I remember around that time Roy mcdonagh who was managingTunbridge getting sent to the stands and sitting in front of us and shouting his head off about he would do bird for the ref that day while we laughed our tits off. Mcdonagh played one game for Chelsea in the seventies. He was nuts. Bought us all a pint I think. Certainly some feisty games in that era.

I know we have had a conversation before on where this Bromley / Sutton thing started, it was before 1991. I think it stems from the early 80's although others may know better? From 86-91 were parted as we were in the conference, but prior to us gaining promotion I remember we used to have a lot of hassle there. I remember one night match where the Bromley forward throw a right hook and laid out one of our boys and there were all sorts of scenes around the tunnel?

Correction. Roy McDonough was hey bridge swifts and it wAs a few years later. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_McDonoughI had no idea he had written a book RED card Roy and not only am I gonna get a copy but I will review it for gandermonium whether they like it or not. I also note that although he was at Chelsea he never actually played for them. That was some afternoon when the ref sent him off down here. No recollection whatsoever of the game itself mind. Just has sending off and the session after.

The SUFC match report on Sutton v Bromley, 12 December 1992, includes the following: Nine minutes from the end Frank Coles became the third Bromley player to be booked, and two minutes later he was sent off for a challenge on Peter Byrne. A veil is better drawn over the next few minutes, but order was restored in time for [Richard] Evans to clinch the points when he ran onto Dack's long free kick and beat the advancing Hayes. The final score was Sutton Utd 3 Bromley 1.

I seem to remember a couple of seasons back that the match programme at Bromley had a dig at us for being the most smug of non-league fans. They certainly seem to have a problem.
Still, if they have this much fire in their bellies ahead of the game, it should ensure a lively atmosphere.
Plenty of banter without it going over the top would make for a good afternoon (along with 3 points of course)

I think a few chants of Heybridge Swifts would shut them up!
