Just saw this clip on "The World at War" documentary on Yesterday channel - googled 'George the transport hog' and the first result took me straight to the clip on British Pathe and I was able to check what I thought I had just seen - 15 seconds in, 213 to Kingston, Carshalton Beeches, Sutton, Cheam. Had to share! www.britishpathe.com/video/a-gag-dont-deprive-others-more-worthy-of-bus-seats

Great stuff. Can anyone ID any of the locations and particularly the boozer?

The last bit looks like the undercover Bus Station in Kingston that backed on to the old Kingston Bus Garage. Interesting that Carshalton Beeches is on the destination blind, because since being in the area (late 1960s) I can only remember the 213 running from Sutton garage to Kingston, and the 213A that did roughly the same thing but went up Traps Lane in New Malden rather than turning left just after the station. Where did it originally start?

Think you are right on the old Kingston bus garage. I think there's a bit of Worcester park in there as well.

For those of you interested in Sutton history and the like, you would do well to follow Fluffy Rascals (Mark's) Facebook group "Old Sutton" - some great old pictures and videos on there. www.facebook.com/groups/4280759068/

Where did it originally start? The 213 used to go to St Helier for quite a long time, relatively recently (I remember it anyway). From 1949 to 1962, the 213 ran from Kingston to Belmont via Carshalton Beeches every day. The 213A ran via Carshalton Beeches on Sundays in 1963 and the 213B did the same in 1964. Looks like you just missed it.

I'm sure I remember the 213 going to Wallington as a kid, possibly through onto Croydon?

I remember Dad taking me to see the new railway bridge being built in Worcester Park, with the road being lowered so that the new double-deck 213 bus could pass under it. photo
