Should think Dos is pretty pleased and very proud with all but one of the players used today. Not sure why Mitch went in like that, perhaps too pumped up against his old club? Silly.
Anyway, we somewhat gifted them their goal and despite the man advantage they rarely looked like scoring again. In fact, I thought they looked like a bunch of overpaid Charlie's who lacked the spirit of a Sutton team who's ball retention in midfield was something to behold in the second half. I thought it looked like they had the 10 men, not us.
The much lauded Southam spent much of his afternoon in the ref's ear. We just seem to pick ourselves up and get on with it.
I'd liked to know why the 12 was not booked for bringing down Binnsy for the penalty, I'd also liked to know why the ref stopped the game after their no 6's first half challenge as we had a fantastic attacking opportunity developing. If he was only gonna give a yellow - also not sure why he had to consult his assistant for that one either - then play on and dish out the card at the next stop in play. Thought their 4 could have had 2 yellows but also agree that SD did dive in a tad and couldn't believe he got away with that.
Have to agree that Stortford looked a far better side - they won't be challenging eh OS?
So, A fantastic point in the circumstances considering we had no skip and JT had to go off with the ankle prob again (bit worrying that for next week) and that we played for over an hour with 10.
Hats off to all. My MOM, the whole bloody lot of them.

Mitchell.Stupid challenge and he let the team down in an important match.Pleased with a point at the end against a rather ordinary Eastleigh team.I don't see Bromley Or Bishops Stortford staying the pace and still see it between us & Eastleigh.

Have to agree that Stortford looked a far better side - they won't be challenging eh OS? Yes, I have to concede that Stortford are genuine title challengers but that I think is because sides like Bromley and Eastleigh are no where near as good as I expected them to be. I have had the benefit of seeing the Mitch challenge from the CW end it didn't look that bad but the video does show Mitch launch himself in a desperate attempt to get the ball and end up going through Fleetwood's standing leg. The only mitigating circumstances for me was that it was one footed, and as described to me maybe a 'orange' card would have been the right decision? The challenge just after that which I haven't seen yet was another 'orange' and as Mitch wasn't given the benefit of the doubt he should surely have walked too? I don't think Eastleigh are a poor side and I don't think they played poorly, I simply think we are the best side in the league by a country mile, and I am backing the boys to show that against more even competition next week. The sheer belief and ability in that 2nd half was something to behold and we didn't just deserve to win we dominated for long periods restricting Eastleigh to lumping the ball anywhere against 10 men. Its a long season and our biggest opponent maybe the pitches making hoofing and boring football lucrative and I am sure will keep Eastleigh in the mix. MOTM for me was Deano just as he provided just that little extra spark. We may have got a little luck on the penalty as the divot from the challenge is just outside the box?

Fantastic second half performance.Well done boys! Overheard some Eastleigh fans after the game."We were rubbish. They played it on the deck and we just kept hoofing it up the pitch. We were outplayed by a 10 man team for 70 minutes and were lucky to get a point." A very fair reflection of the day.

Did you watch the games in Modena in 82 ? It was a shorter tournament than previously, just 4 teams with us and Poole Town from England.

One Eastleigh fan appears to think it was an under 10 sized pitch!! Odd. And the pitch was in a terrible state. Well we passed it around ok. They are a funny bunch. Think we should expect to see more heavy investment in their engine room and up front. Given their resources I still make them favourites for the title.

Pictures from the game can be seen here. Sutton vs Eastleigh on FlickrMitch's red card tackle Their tackle a couple of minutes later which resulted in a yellow. 0-1 Penalty to Sutton Dundas hammers it home. Question. Was this aimed at the Eastleigh keeper in reference to his timewasting throughout or am I just reading too much into it?

I was extremely surprised by the travelling support from Eastleigh. The 'vocal' section consisted of exactly 23 supporters. Now I am certain there were others in the stadium following the visitors, but that is the worst travelling support I have seen all season at Sutton and from a side top of the league when visiting. Poor!

Yep awful away support, their backing was a completely disjointed effort. They are a pretty poorly supported club though with fantasy average gate figures based on cut price season tickets which mean they save even if only go to a few games. Go to a game there, will be announced as 700 and there will be a 350-400 max in there with our quite decent travelling support included. Shame we were also so quiet 1st half particularly for such a big game and that we are not bringing in more for this sort of game. Hopefully we'll keep the run going and the message will get out there.

In regards to the attendances, what sort of figures do people think we should be in?
For the time I have been supporting Sutton we have always been around the 500-600 average attendance mark apart from when we were in what is now the Conference Premier back in 1999/2000. Even then it was probably only about an average of just over 1,000 and the attendances were dropping back to the 600-700 mark by the end of that season.
I remember looking at old programmes from our Ryman Championship winning season 98/99 and apart from a few games against the likes of Bromley and Carshalton our average attendance was probably still not much more than it was when we won the Ryman a few seasons ago.
I think our average attendance has been pretty consistent over the years compared to a lot of clubs, such as Chelmsford and Dover whose attendances really drop when they are not doing so well.
I think the only way our average attendance will go up is if we are top of the league towards the end of the season or if we get promoted to the Premier where teams will bring a lot more away support and we will add more of our own support due to the higher profile of that league and some of the teams in it.
