Good Podcast as usual Johnnie.
We've had a good 'drying' day here today in the Springfield part of Chelmsford, with plenty of bright sunny spells, and the forecast is the same for the next couple of days, so 'fingers crossed' we'll get a game on at last.
For me, the "danger man" won't be Tom Davies ( he's been on the bench quite a bit recently ), but Luke 'The Tank' Callander who seems to have adjusted well to life in the Conference South since his arrival from Heybridge Swifts ( where Chelmsford's new manager Mark Hawkes returned to, in order to obtain his services ). His direct style will have to be watched !

.....with many new additions to the squad, it will be interesting to see the 11 that take the field at 3pm. Feel we must get something out of this game.

1st goal on 63rd min was a lovely header from a superb Dale Binns cross, the 2nd in the 87th was a fiercely hit shot through a crowd of players by Dale Binns

Downward header? It was a brilliant diving header from a spanking Binnsy cross. Slabs directing of the ball was exquisite, placing it right in the corner. The ensuing celebrations somewhat engulfed me I had my glasses knocked off by a fellow specs wearer. Sorry, if I had a go but they did end up the wrong side of the fence! Not sure what the "it's not all about you comment" was meant to mean, I was somewhat worried they were heading for a trampling.
Anyway, it was a blinding header that stuffed it up the Chelmsford boo boys who seem to forget their club's inability to pay the wages on time last season probably cost them a number of their better players including Slabs.
Thought we deserved the win today as City rarely troubled U's who gave 3 starting debuts and the youngsters and RW did very well on a heavy surface.
First half we were comfortable. Cloughie hit the bar, they made one magnificent clearance from the line and got away with a blatant handball in the box that the ref bottled buy giving a non-existent push. Tom Davis picked up his customary yellow minutes after their skip had escaped a card for hacking down the bright and energetic Jamie Taylor.
Second half started with the home side probably enjoying their best spell before U's got back into the groove before Slabs brilliant headed goal. 1-0 is always a dodgy lead but U's held firm when they needed too and with City's players, manager and fans losing it with the ref, U's confirmed a deserved win with Binnsy late right footed strike through a clutch of defenders to score his first goal in a Sutton shirt.
The ref today has already officiated us at Whitehawk and Boreham Wood and today he upset the home crowd big time and the antics of their skipper and others in trying to get our players booked by pressurising him over anything and everything was poor.
So, a great return back to playing. Well done to the whole squad today for putting together a well-honed performance, particularly with so many new faces. But a big well done to the front two who were excellent today and Slabs' goal will stay long in the memory.

I thought it was a excellent (proper) away performance today, we defended well earned the right to play and got the opportunity to push the excellent Binns forward to win the game. Charlie is one class defender and along with Weston they restricted CCFC to speculative efforts or hopeful punts into the box.
Binnsy for me was MOTM he played as defender, then attacking winger, goal provider with a better cross you will not see followed by a sweet finish to get what I think was his first goal for the club?
The pitch was difficult but it was the same for both sides, the ref was again the same for both teams and we were well worthy of the 2-0 score line. Mitch still concerns me a bit with his positioning and getting sucked into to the middle leaving acres of space, but anything that came from that was dealt with by the likes of Cloughie.
JS showed us what he does best and that's score goals, no point putting expecting pace or mazy runs, just deliver him a decent ball and he doesn't miss.

I would have to say that Slabber's header is up there as one of best headed goals I have seen from a Sutton player. It reminded me of one of my all time favourites, Peter Drabwell. Thank you Jamie - sensational.
