Being a old git and old school sutton fan the ground improvements are fantastic from a personal point of view and Paul Doswell has breathed fresh air into the club but what are the fans realistic on pitch expectations for the coming season? Conference south is a great league ... Love another crack at the conference premier .....would like to think we will be there or there abouts again ⚽️⚽️ ?

Well looking at the squad we had this time last year, I was confident of the play offs. I think this years is even stronger, especially at the back. We've got a mix overall of old favourites, proven quantities and a couple of exciting prospects. Plus a fantastic new head coach. Throw into the mix that one of our main rivals are not there any more, I think we'll be play offs again, if not challenging earlier for the title. I wouldn't be surprised when the odds come out we'll be up there with Ebbsfleet as favourites.
Like you Clive I'd love to have another crack at the Prem, but I'd love even more that Dos does, because he really deserves a go at it with the quite frankly amazing achievements he's pulled off here in the last 6 years!

As we know from his post on here Dos was really hurting after that Dover match, I have never seen him so down. The effort he has put into the ground and putting a squad together which I think is better then any we have had at CS tells me we will be right up there. Dos wants this and I for one dont think we will be involved in the payoffs

I think that a lot may depend on what sort of start to the season we have. We have tended to start the season slowly - in part I think because we have tended to have quite a few new players still getting to know each other (I know this applies to other clubs as well - but the sides that win the league tend to have relative squad continuity. This season we've kept the spine of last year's team largely intact). I think that it must be at least 5 years since we won our first game of the league season. I'm pleased that we are starting playing pre-season friendlies a bit earlier this year (4 July) since this might help us hit the ground running when the league campaign begins. If we do, I'm sure that we will be in contention come the end of the season - but I think that the league as a whole will be a higher standard than last year as the effect of financial constraints on football league clubs means that better quality players are cascading down the football pyramid.

Good thread. I'm very much looking forward to us getting up and running with our pre-season schedule. A strong assembly of players for this season - in my opinion stronger than last year, I think we'll challenge for the title again (with Ebbsfleet and Bromley other contenders). As others have mentioned also, we need a strong start to get us going as we all know we finish campaigns very strongly. Wonder who the bookies fancy for the title..!

I expect us to challenge for the play offs based on recent history. Whether we can do any better than that will depend on a number of factors. Let's hope for another enjoyable year.

I expect us to win the league but i always do! I'm hoping we get off to a good start & looking forward to actually seeing how good the new players are on the pitch rather than on paper!

Remember our title winning season started with a 0-0 at Concord. Then we went another 5 games without letting a goal in I think! And those of us remembering 9 seasons ago which started with a thumping of Maidenhead (with a Luke Cornwall hat trick) and getting to the end of August top of the league. We ended up 13th that season.
Even last season after beating us on the opening day, Eastleigh didn't set the league alight in the first few weeks. A good start is obviously important, but let's not get disheartened if we're not up there by the end of August. It's a marathon not a sprint!

Expectations for next season? Championship wrapped up around Christmas, getting to at least the FA Cup 4th round (whilst knocking Swansea City out) and winning the FA Trophy and Surrey Senior Cup. Whilst some may consider that a tadge unrealistic, it's nice to dream, isn't it?
Realistically I hope that we can be in the title hunt all season, play some decent Football and keep up the good work in the community.

I'm much less optimistic than I was last summer, though perhaps that's no bad thing! I think a lot will depend on how the new signings Reindorf and Hoban perform in attack. Slabber and Scannell are hard players to replace, and although it sounds as if the new guys have got talent, Dos also described them as "raw", which means we may have to be patient before seeing the best of them. There's a limit to how much we can rely for goals on Jamie T and Dundo, both of whom are over 30. If Marvin rediscovers the form he showed towards the end of 12/13 then that would be a huge boost and take pressure off the others.
Last season we had a lot of bad luck with injuries. If we can keep most of the squad fit this time then we could be in with a shout.

Actually good point about the SSC. I want us to fall at the first hurdle please, we won't need any of that rubbish at the sharp end of the season.

Play the ressies and those that need match fitness and Bob's your Old Man's brother. Expectations... be in and around the PO's come the end of the season. Smashing.
