We need to warm their keepers hands early on and get quality balls into the box, its as simple as that.
The service to the front men has been awful of late, we have struggled to get behind defences partially due to the 'big' loss of Binns, not helped by losing Marv too. It doesn't matter what happens on the pitch if you don't get shots on target, you will not win matches. Some may question, White and Medlock but the give away clue is Dundo, we know he can score goals, but he isn't scoring either so it has to be down to the service they are getting. Billy showed he can find the net at South Park if given a decent ball.
Its not our front men, its not our defence which has been given very little to defend in the way of goals, so you have to look at the creation from midfield. Since we lost Binns/Marv that creation has dropped to almost nothing, hence lack of scoring goals.

Well, the weather's set fair for this afternoon, albeit a little on the "brass monkey" side! Hopefully we can put this funny old year behind us with 3 points. If we're in with a shout of winning near the end let's give them some major vocal encouragement to finish the job off this time - transmit some positivity from the terraces when it's really needed.

Yes!!! Two superb goals from Billy Medlock and make shift centre forward and captain Charlie Clough, who was absolutely immense today.

A last! Not only a win, a win at GGL. tbh, should have been by about 5 as we contrived not to take first half chances after dominating the first period. heir goal comes from a deflected shot & I think may have been the only effort they had on target all game.
Cloughie up front an experiment that years ago reaped rewards for U's when JR was converted to a centre-forward and today, the skipper could have had a hat-trick. A header and then putting the ball over form a yard. But boy, what a goal he scored. Turning the defender, outpacing him and then striking the ball into the far corner. That after Billy Medlock scored his first league goal after breaking clear. He maybe offside; the way our luck has been I hope he was. City had the best spell after the second but rarely threatened.
Good, gritty team performance today against a City side who looked poor without Frendo and were allowed to get away with a fair bit by an equally poor referee. Of course we lost two more to injury within the first 25 mins but the lads put in a great shift. Cloughie was made mom for obvious reasons, he did play very well, but the back three defended well, Wishart had his best game in a Sutton shirt, providing three superb crosses and really putting in a performance for the team. I thought Bedsente had a v good match but Glen Southam was excellent today, although his yellow may mean a further suspension. Not sure on that one.
As for the ref, christ, he couldn't manage consistency over 5 mins of the match let alone a full 90. Once again very inconsistent with his cards and allowed Billy Medlock no protection whatsoever. Joke fee-kicks given against both sides then ignoring more robust challenges.
Still, 3pts at last. And very well deserved too. Hurrah!

With Callum Hart returning from injury PD took the opportunity to push Cloughie up top and boy did it make a difference! We trebled our chances from recent weeks in the first half, although we squandered them - many by Cloughie himself it has to be said. By 25 minutes we had lost two players to injury but even so, despite another set of clowns officiating, I felt sure we were going to get something out of this game even after going 1-0 down after a wicked deflection left Lovelock diving for the far post as the ball rolled over the line the other side. A Stale Buns defender with his hands carefully behind his back inexplicably decided to palm the ball away in the area whereupon the Grim Reaper equally inexplicably decided to ignore it after no help from his 'assistant' who must have had the same view as me. Second half the confidence appeared to flow back into the team, particularly after Billy Medlock (who I thought has his best performance in a Sutton shirt) was put through on his own and did what he failed to do at Basingstoke. The afternoon was crowned by possibly the best goal this season from Charlie, who shortly after had his legs taken from him as he was about to score. The result? Yes, you guessed, a corner!
