I thought it was Liam Wright who hit the post. Warren was subbed about 10 mins before it was not him!

Not a bad performance i felt, considering we had a few teenagers playing (including 1 making his 1st start), and then our most experienced defender gets sent-off, so it was always going to be an uphill struggle. 4-1 was slightly harsh on the team today, although the non-biased part of me would say overall FGR had the majority of the play and chances. I think despite the scoreline we can hold our heads up, and hopefully start picking up league wins!

Well at least you can concentrate on league survival now. And you must take 3pts at maidenhead in a couple of weeks, they were very poor ...

Yeah, there was a lot of positives to take from the game and Maidenhead are very much in the bottom group we need to take maximum points off so i hope they are poor! Although i'd be concerned for the overexcited AFC fan on the Isthmian forum who reckons you would be play-off contenders in the Conf South with your current side based on beating a newly promoted and 5th bottom side. 2-0 and should've been 5 or 6 very quickly turns into no goals and missed chances against better sides

4-1 flattered the opposition, who quite frankly would have beaten to a pulp by a lot of teams in our division. quote] but yet we can beat teams like rotherham utd 3-0 away in the FA Cup?! nah i can't really comment as i wasn't there. sounds as though your sending off resulted in making a difference towards the latter stages. all the best for the rest of the season.

Fgrfan, no offence, but maybe I wasn't seeing FGR at their best. I'm sure the FGR fans who were there would agree with me in saying it probably wasn't your best performance of the season, but your league position doesn't lie so I think your team is better than I saw. Best of luck for the rest of the season, I think its great that you are making an impression against a lot of the 'big boys'

I think Andy is being unfair to FGR. Admittedly the penalty swung the whole balance of the game, but FGR put us away in a professional manner and walked away with the second half, even though we fought well. Incidentally, it may be true that Fleetwood wasn't at his best, but he scored twice, whereas we've improved under Ernie, but still can't win and rarely score. That's why they're 6th in BSP and we're bottom of BSS. Ernie said in the Sutton Guardian 2 weeks ago that he hoped to sign a couple of new players. Now that Glover, Hudson and Jallow have gone, we need at least 2, including a striker, by Saturday in my view. At least now we won't have Dundas in and out of the team (SSC excepted), so we should get a more settled line-up (once the suspensions are over ). Quite a few of our fans were having a go at the ref at the end. Not sure how anyone could think the ref caused yesterday's defeat, but some people seem to think there's a conspiracy against us. Finally, what a terrible attendance yesterday. Even fewer people than at Corinthian Casuals (I know they were playing K's, but we were playing a top 6 BSP team). Only 4 gates were less than ours in the Trophy yesterday. The play-offs and ex-league teams not much interested in the competition have certainly devalued it.

Good battling performance, although 4-1 was bloody harsh on us. More than held our own until Scoobs was sent off and they only really started to dominate in the second half when the extra man told.
As for the ref, he was getting stick because he was absolutely abysmal! I could see from 100 yards away it was a clear pen, yet from 10 yards and with a perfectly clear line of sight, he saw feck all and had to rely on his linesman to point out the offence!
He was awful. And whilst not the cause of the defeat, deserved all the abuse he got.

The BBC report our attendance as 303. Was it really that low?

The BBC report our attendance as 303. Was it really that low? Yes, it's on the official site match report. (Remember the Trophy is all pay, so we can't include all the season ticket holders). Seems that some of the FGR fans weren't impressed with our fans. 2 quotes from their message board: "Despite the uproar from the rather unpleasant section of Sutton fans in the stand behind me, Fleets just got his nose in front of his marker who was the last man and was obviously pulled down so neither the penalty nor the red card were a big surprise".
"I share your feelings about the Sutton fans - The linesman bore the brunt of their frustration after the penalty decision (which looked nailed on from where I was stood) and Jones did admirably to keep his composure in spite of a barrage of witless haranguing throughout the whole of the first half." ;D

Scooby made a decision to pull Fleetwood back, that looked fairly clear from the other end of the pitch, yes it changed the complextion of the game and we made FGR who are a very good side work extremely hard to get their win. There were physically stronger than us in the second half and kept going to put us away in the end, but they will know as we do that without the sending off they may well be out of the trophy today, we shall never know? If you pull a man back when he has the keeper to beat then off you go, we would of suggested as much if it was at the other end. Where luck does come into when you are down the bottom is the scoreline of 4-1 should of been 3-2.
We kept the best attack outside the football league quiet for 50 mins with only 9 men, scared them with our pace. We have every reason to be positive because teams like M'head just ain't that good and we will have 11 players on the pitch with a bit of luck.

"Unpleasant fans in the stand"? Christ knows what they would have thought if they stood behind the goal!
As Taz stated eatlier, the ref wasn't to blame for our defeat, he was just bloody awful. Why is it when someone has a go at ref that some people view that as dishing out blame for a defeat - except if he does make poor decisions that change the game?
It isn't - it's just an observation & in this case, a very accurate one. Even the neutral NLP reporter only gave him 5 out of 10.

Shite ref but he got the biggest decision of the day spot on. The only person who needs to reflect on it is Scooby, pulling Fleetwood back was just stupid and cost us our slim chance of winning the game. In hindsight a replay would've done us no good (although with twenty to go i can't recall ever wanting to be able to go and freeze to death in Gloucestershire more...) and even a win would just be another game in the way of our vital league campaign but still... It's been a long time since we've seen a really strong game from John and as somebody who so clearly has the passion and drive to play for Sutton and keep us up, the performances to match that are going to be needed. A team with him playing well is half the way to winning, such would be the strength of the defence, but a team with him playing badly (or indeed sent off) is a team just waiting to concede, our defence is that vital. Like the goalkeeper, one mistake is a goal and they don't have the luxury of being able to skew away a few shots before netting the winning goal like the strikers do. Incidentally, i was musing on the difference between the results of two identical saves, one from Williams at Cambridge "Williams could not hang onto a low free-kick and Chaffey turned home the loose ball." and the one from Wilson yesterday "Wilson did have to be at his best to keep out a low free-kick"... The ball spilled out into exactly the same place from an almost identical shot on both occasions, the one at Cambridge was steered in by alert strikers, the other at GGL on Saturday was missed by lazy strikers and cleared by alert defenders. So thin is the line between success and failure Returning to my original point though... If our defenders play well enough to keep us up they will have had the best season of their lives. It would be stupid to expect perfection but it would be nice to expect the elimination of stupid goals. If you get done by Stuart Fleetwood and he cracks in a goal then so be it, but if you pull him back and give away a penalty then you've f*cked up even more. I know that some, maybe all of the players look in on here from time to time so if you've managed to get this far down read on and realise i have a point... Thrive on the opportunity to play the best football you've ever played, admit and focus on your mistakes, work on preventing them, train harder, train longer, think more about your game and less on where you'll be partying Saturday night. There cannot be a single player in this league who doesn't want to make their living from football and if there is anything to be salvaged from this season, surely it should be making yourself a better footballer?I don't mean to single Scarborough out as a scapegoat or anything like that and i am merely using it as the most recent example of these sort of things but i felt the need to drum home the point that if we are going to get out of the bottom three the players have to focus so much more on their games and their abilities, strengths and weakness and so on and they simply cannot rely on guaranteed starts simply because of what has gone before, a reputation, or being top earner or whatever. As Bruce Elliot said when we appointed Ian Hazel, we're at the top of what can be considered Non League football (ignoring the practically pro National Conference) and there shouldn't be anyone playing for any Conf South club happy to drift along at this level playing the quality of football we've been churning out. Football is not a complicated game and getting better at it isn't hard either. Good things don't come to those who wait, they come to those who knuckle down and work for it. Lets build on a superbly spirited performance against a better team and take the fight and the proven talent into the league and start winning games.

I thought Scooby was nearly back to his best until his 'mistake' on Saturday, and was part of a team playing very well when it happened. Never sure how many matches people miss for these offences, I'm sure someone will enlighten me.
I think Haverson played very well, and was happy to see Lewis back at left back.
