20 certainly sounds young to me!
It may be little consolationat the moment but when I started going as a very young kid in the early seventies we seemed to lose an awful lot. Having said that we never seemed to be in a relegation scrap. Age 6 or 7 I tended to take one game at a time! Things seemed to kick on once we had the Anglo Italian cup runs. Hopefully people will soon get tired of spending and losing silly money in non league football and Sutton can return to our normal place as a fairly senior non league club.

Sounds like a trip down memory lane to me I started going in 1974 went until 1985 missed 15yrs and went back again in 2000 so some of you youngsters who think you had a raw deal what about me? The closest to glory I got was seeing us lose in the Trophy final, lose 2-1 at the County ground and bunk of School defy my dad and go to Aylesbury for a FA Cup reply which when we got there was called off so I had to do the same again 2 days later. I did get to hold the Anglo Italian cup though and it was not me who dropped it, got to see us play at Wembley, went out with a certain centre forwards sister and see us beat Arsenal reserves 2-1. Now you will get good odds on any of them repeating themselves

Well there goes my new years resolution..not to read this forum until at least lunchtime.Just got to work and have spent the first 20 minutes reading recent posts and felt compelled to comment on this one. Top four Sutton games for me. Sutton v Hillingdon Boro. 3rd round replay.1970 what an atmosphere, what a prize result that was. Peterborough v Sutton Middlesborough v Sutton.I went up with a mate and we had to hide our scarves and put on a fake Scottish accent in a pub near the ground. Sutton old boys v Sutton Supporters. 1987. A Mark Kidd goal ensured us a 1-1 draw.Me and AB had a great game in the middle of the defence (he says modestly) cancelling out any threat from Tony Coppen and..I can't remember who else.mind you, they were both about twice our age.

Smiffy - how are you?! Dave Hutchins partnered Tony Coppin up front that night (ably assisted by the likes of the legendary Larry Pritchard, Graham Dennis, Ted Powell and Alan Ives) - some of those great players WERE twice our age back then but taught us a lesson in "making the ball do the work" with unbelievable ease. We may have sneaked a 1-1 draw but, despite only being 24 at the time, it took me about three days to recover from chasing those guys around the park for ninety minutes!
