I too am beginning to question some of the issues mentioned.
I recently posted comments under the thread heading "The impossible dream" (which in hindsight was the wrong place to post. Apologies ) which mentioned player management. EH would appear to be an "old school" type manager. I thought when he arrived he seemed the man for the job, and to a point I still think he is, although next season will be the acid test. We have lost several good players this season who haven`t been replaced. The common thread with all of them appears to be conflict with the new manager for what ever reason. Being a good manager isn`t just about stamping your authority it is also about getting the best out of your staff/players and there is always more than one way of doing that. The easy option is to get rid of the problem which anyone, whether qualified or not can do. The more difficult option is to try and solve the problem, work with what you have and get the best out of it. When that fails "then" take the easy option. With the amount of players now gone and the inability to attract new ones I wonder where we would have been without some of the players who have stepped up from Youth & Reserve team level as they now make up the majority of the squad !!
I accept that some players have been asked to do a job and fill positions that they would not usually play yet there are squad members being left out because of this ! Why are we trying to put square pegs in round holes when there is no need ? Why, when we are playing top opposition did we only train once during the week when we usually train twice ? Given our current plight we should be training as much as possible especially on our dead ball options as there seems to be no plan what so ever when we get such opportunities !! along with the delivery being very poor !! and any chance of success squandered !! As mentioned by os he does not appear to be a motivator and the most unmotivated person I saw on the pitch yesterday was Paul Honey and that for me really set the alarm bells ringing as he is normally full of drive, desire & passion. At times he was just strolling around. I`m not sure what we paid for SB but I think it was a panic buy and if the figures that I have heard banded about are true then some serious questions need to be answered. As for him not getting on because he was injured ?.........I don't think so, I think BD was put on because the game was well lost at that stage and it was a good opportunity to "blood" him in. He along withe other players are playing superbly in the Youth & Reserves and one of the main reasons for this is that they playing freely and with confidence, whereas the first team are the polar opposite. I`d rather see us shoot 20 times and not score than see us not shoot at all, and not score. You can see that the players are reluctant to have a dig at goal for fear of being ridiculed, berated or even being dropped. That is the classic symptoms of lack of confidence
We are not bad that side and have competed well against higher placed teams, although we showed our bad side yesterday. If we could hit the net a few times or even shoot it would alter the way other sides play against us.
Nobody is perfect and this includes EH so hopefully he is learning and this will make him a better manager and even more determined to prove his doubters wrong and get the team back to winning ways.
