Today is the day that the fat lady sang. well done st albans and welling for showing alot more fight than the u's. All thats left to play for now is trying to finish above Dorchester. So was it as bad as 5-1 sounds? I wouldnt dare come to GGL again this season after arriving to see the dismal second half performance of sutton v bognor a few weeks ago. i knew when I saw them lie down in that game it was Rymans next season. Oh well, at least we might have Boxing Day beatings of the Robins to look forward to once more, damn I hope they stay up! I am sure Ernie will do a grand job next season and all but if we're honest could Hazell's team really have got any less points? I'm not convinced wholesale changes of personell mid way thru a season is ever a good idea. In my humble opinion the only chance of turning a season around is a few quality signings and improvement of morale/attitude of whats already there. THEN you ship them all out in the close season! Again, thats just my opinion and at one point it really looked like he might do the job.

I'm up for a miracle. Until it says 'R' next to us in the table I'll keep the faith. Now where's my medication?

Tony Cuff made a good debut and must surely start against Lewes. Our defending today was awful.Did we win a single header in the box?

The result speaks for itself and I'm not sure there's much that can usefully be said about the match.
I don't think any of us can seriously expect Sutton to escape from the bottom three now. Our only hope (and I really don't know how much straw-clutching is required here!) is that off-field issues force two or three other clubs out of BSS.

When the story of this season is written this match will be remembered for a deserved 5-1 win for Eastbourne. It really was that different in class today. A very poor performance. Yes the ref was terrible, but even the best ref, or even one that was heavily biased towards Sutton wouldn't have affected the result.
We did, however score in open play. And it was our on loan centre back. Not the best news either. Although we are still not technically relegated, today I finally accepted the fact that we will not survive this season. Yes miracles can happen, but they won't happen if we have no one who can score goals. Our defence has been not bad for the last few games, but totally fell to pieces today. Bearing in mind our next 4 games are against Lewes, Stortford, Fisher and Havant we realisitcally have little chance of getting even one point in those games.
We've had our chances over the last few weeks to get out of the mes (Dorchester, Bognor etc) and other clubs were contriving to give us even more chances. We've not taken them.
To quote my fave chant of the day "We're going to Heybridge, you're not" to the Eastbourne fans. Kind of sums it up really

We were truly awful for 75mins today, lazy lethargic not looking like they even wanted to put the effort in from the moment they scored their first. Motivation looks poor, when we came out for that second half followed by Eastbourne it reminded me of that advert for insurance or something with the Sunday morning Rugby team, our body language was terrible. We then gave the ball away straight from the restart and did not touch it again until it was back on the centre spot, not even completing a single pass, not sure I have ever seen that in 35yrs of footy that's nothing to do with ability its just sloppy. You would of thought we had learnt our lesson but oh no! we go do it again from the kick off, there were 5 or 6 out there today who could not be bothered? CD as ever worked his socks off all afternoon and I thought Cuff did well, but many lacked the commitment needed against a side like Eastbourne.
Yes the ref was terrible, CD was fouled inside the box and No10 clearly handled on the line, but we were never at the races until the last 15 when it was too late.
We are going down and relegation could be confirmed within as little as 9 days, but I remember Maidenhead's spirit when they were relegated they never gave up and managed to come straight back up against the odds. The fight to bounce back starts now not in August?
OH Yeh! Their number 2 gets my vote as pansy of the day, how he went down under that challenge I really dont know, what a prat he looked!

Despite only drawing with Heybridge (to where you are going and we may not be) Jason Henry had an excellent debut for us today, looked very lively and unlucky not to get on the scoresheet.

I thought he went to Bromley! He was always very lively for us and unlucky not to get on the scoresheet.Seems to be a bit of a trait.I had hoped i'd never have to go back to Heybridge.Do they still open the tea bar 3 minutes before kick off?

What a mauling. I'm not sure the committment thing was part of our demise today, I think it was down to the sheer class void. Their first goal came from the 'keeper's kicked clearance & the next guy to touch it scored on the half volley. Any confidence there may have been just drained away & our midfield just could not cope with their passing & movement off the ball.
Having said that, I don't think Boro' were that great, certainly Histon & salisbury were better last season but when you defend like we did for 70 odd mins yesterday most teams will look good.
Why was Sammut left out, meaning we had no recognised full back in the team? I know Dean has not been playing so well recently but it appeared a direct reaction to the penalty he gave away last week & when your manager slates you in the press for it my suspicions become aroused.
At least there was some comedy value in the cretin that calls himself a referee. The punch off the line was so blatant but he just totally missed it. He was not aided by two poor assistants either. My theory is, and as somebody who is also vertically challenged, i know, I reckon he just cannot see some things because he is trying to look over/through players who are for the most part somewhat larger than he is. Therefore, his ability to position himself is crucial. His interpreattion of the handball law is totally inconsistent but TBH, at times I thought he had brought his own set of laws with him. Truly awful. Thankfully his performance had no effect on the result otherwise it would have not been so funny.
I'm off to hopefully produce a far better performance on some rain-sodden pitch in Morden. Let's face it, all I have to do is just turn up to achieve that.
