Incidentally, the BBC's website is still claiming the final scoreline was 3-2. At least their coverage of non-league football is consistently shoddy. NLP says it was 3-0 ?? We saw that when we purchase it this morning as well!

We saw that when we purchase it this morning as well! it was definitely a ‘walk quickly past NLP in Asda day’ for me - can’t look at it after we lose 🙈 disappointed to be out of the trophy, but still very exciting few months ahead - was nice for Tommy to get his deserved goal and I was impressed with Adam Coombes when he came on, nice to see Nicky Bailey back on list too! Roll on next Sat💛

Besides, anyone who's mentioned it so far has said it wasn't to blame, although it did of course affect the course of the match (which I suppose any pitch would have done).
That's 8 goals in the last 5 games for Tommy, if anyone's counting.

A couple of days on and I'm still feeling disappointed to bow out of the trophy (once again in what seems a cursed 3rd Round) - a competition which I genuinely thought we had a chance of winning this season.
Credit to Brackley though who simply played the conditions/pitch better and deserved to progress, you can see how they have such a fearsome unbeaten home record this season (though I dare say this would have been a totally different game had it been at GGL). An interesting ground they've got there - reminded me a bit of Hemel the first time I went there but with the addition of a notable slope from one corner diagonally to the other corner. Felt we were below-par with some questionable team selections. I wouldn't mind us poaching their number 2 (Ellis Myles) at right back who gave Collins a torrid afternoon and 5 (Alex Gudger) - both were particular stand-outs for the hosts.
Onwards and upwards - all in for the league now where we remain only four points off top spot after Saturday's results.

Decided to wait for the highlights before putting my twopence worth on here; a because i missed the lead up to the first goal and b no real view of the penalty.
First goal was a foul on the 'keeper. The pen was soft but I actually can see what he (ref) may have seen. However, based on much of the rest of his afternoon, that's not saying much. He looked like he didn't want to be there and the though of having to clean his boots when he got home was preying on his mind. Another northern based NL ref who gave us nothing (my pre-season prediction that we could get crap refs oop north (and this was only Northamptonshire!) has certainly not been off the mark.
As to the match can't argue with the defeat (perhaps the manner of it). First goal came against the run of play as, other than one shot on the break, BT hadn't done a lot. U's had poured down the slope but not made the best of it not helped by the state of the pitch (how many of our plays lost balance or completely stacked it during the match?).
The penalty was the killer really, while their third just confirmed the result.
BT have a good side, nothing spectacular but they had a game plan, implemented it well and defended doggedly when needed. U's didn't play badly but just couldn't master the conditions.
If Brackley harbour any thoughts of promotion they really have to spend money on their pitch to start with - it made Havant look like a PL surface - and watching the highlights, I didn't realise how so many areas of it had turned into a quagmire. They will be hoping for a major drought up there for about five weeks, because it is going to take sometime to recover. As for the ground, well the far side has nothing but a narrow concrete path to stand on, so after one season in the NLP they will have to address that too; still at least there is some space. Methinks their team is outgrowing their stadium but hopefully they have plans in place. The bar area was very comfortable.
For this old lag, a disappointing defeat as winning the FA Trophy remains my burning desire for Sutton, particularly after the 1981 last minute defeat. And I thought this season was a good chance.
Dover next up (weather permitting).

Had we triumphed on Saturday afternoon we would have received a tie away to Maidenhead United/Stockport County..

I would only add to Mark Frake's report that Brackley looked like they had done their homework on Sutton and identified two things to exploit. Owen Evans uncertain handling if put under pressure in the box as shown v Hendon and Daggers; Walton's habit of putting in a risky challenge around the 18 yard line as shown v Orient.
A vital component of U's success with Ross and Craig up front has been the accurate kicking to them from distance of Butler and Bailey. No point in putting the big guns on the field with the wrong ammo, and that problem will be carried forward until B&B are playing again. Perhaps the wingers would have done better.
