Belated entry from me.
The only plus from Saturday was that the predicted snow by the Met Office never turned up; the oft-maligned BBC website forecast was far more accurate. Therefore, duvet, broom and shovel that accompanied me on the journey up from the coast was not required, thankfully.
If the second half at Orient was our worst 45 mins of the season, Saturday was our worst 90. We started both halves reasonably well and finished with a flourish but in between, Maidstone showed more than we did and deserved to win what was a poor match. The NLP reporter gave it four stars (she was kidding, right?). It was error strewn from both sides as players tried to cope with the biting cold, swirling wind and minor snow flurries. From a Sutton point of view, there was little to dwell upon. Not sure why their goal was chalked off as the MU highlights failed to pick up when the ref blew his whistle which was just before Loza headed it in. Thereafter, though the home side got many of the decisions. The MU forum accuses U's players of bullying the ref - as if we had the monopoly on that on Sat afternoon - with their goalscorer in particular guilty of such charges. The lino on the stand side was myopic - totally missing a foul on a home player and giving us a throw; the home crowd in uproar, second most amusing moment of a boring afternoon as my feet tried to freeze to the metal terracing, or so it felt. S-Y eventually got booked but he appeared to have the luxury of having more lives than anyone else on the pitch.
So the end to a ten-match unbeaten run - no mean feat in the NL this year.
I think the attendance was the worst at The Gallagher this season for a NL match. They got 2,200 against Torquay who brought almost 100 less than we did (was there only 221 of us as it seemed a bit bunched?), suggesting that almost 300 of the locals failed to turn up, no doubt because of said Met Office forecast.
First most amusing moment though was watching that bespectacled 40-something Maidstone fan goading our youngsters as we poured down the terraces at the end. It was like they had won a cup final, perhaps to him they had. I was just glad to get in the car, in the relative warm and the roads were clear all the way back to Littlehampton. Result.
Chester next up; bounce-back-ability time

For those who maybe intersted, as well as our first defeat at The Gallagher, this was Maidstone's first home win in a Conference/NL fixture against U's, their first away coming earlier in the season. It was also Maidstone's first "double" over Sutton since the 1958/9 season, although we have only met at the same level in 17 seasons over that 59 year period, since.

210 Away fans not 221 Mark 👍 Semantics; doesn't change the point I was making, does it?

It is a truly dedicated fan who puts himself at risk of needing all those things just to see his team play

We also came fully prepared with food and spare chargers and blankets just in case we got stuck but thankfully we didn’t

You don't live on the Sussex coast though!
Edit (posted too early!): Well done to all of us who risked it in that weather no matter how far we came.

Does it matter, with that weather, there was always a chance that anyone could get stuck and we came prepared like any sensible person would.

Semantics; doesn't change the point I was making, does it? No but just thought I’d point it out The 210 figure quoted by Maidstone doesn't cover everyone, only those who came in the "Official Away Fans" entrance are counted, I for one, came in via the Main Entrance and had a few bevvies in the Spitfire Lounge, so Mark's figure is probably closer to the true figure...I wasn't the only one in there either !

Exactly - we are all dedicated fans, but I was complimenting a fellow Sutton fan who has significantly farther to travel than you or I and did so despite the risks. Can't I compliment someone without it being hijacked by someone else?

Not being hijacked at all, Mark stated he brang some things with him in case he got stuck and I replied that we also brang some stuff in case we got stuck as well, instead of saying something like “good on Ryan, would have been silly if you got stuck and didn’t bring anything just in case”, you mentioned something completely different, I didn’t do anything wrong...

See where you’re coming from Rambo but I always take it from what the club state but like u said there are gonna be people who won’t go in the Away entrance to use the bar and that.

Ah I see you merely missed the point of my post rather than hijacking it. Carry on!
