Whilst we have complete faith in our Manager and his Team supporters are naturally worried about the implications of possible promotion to EFL. Listening to some of their concerns- ripping up a perfectly good playing surface & funding a replacement surface. Unknown additional Stadium costs/full time staffing costs and the thought that promotion will me mean attending fewer games because we won't have many local derby's! With the great possibility Havent and Dartford getting promoted and Barnet demoted it seems staying put is not a bad scenario. You can see their point of view. I guess its a case of do you want to watch us play Havant & Waterlooville and Dartford or would you rather us play Swindon Town or Notts County. Personally i want us to play football at the highest level we can achieve and that is why i come down week after week to support the team. If say we wanted to stay at our current level and go no higher i would certainly lose my enthusiasm for watching the team & wouldn't be travelling to places like Fylde.

Forgot the reply!!!!Personally the thought of playing Swindon gives me nightmares.Having been a fan since 1971 it would be the first time I would have ever wanted them to lose.If it happens I think I will have to give it a miss.Couldn't watch Sutton and not give them anything less than 100% support even against my boyhood love!Haven't been to the County Ground since 1982 when I got New priorities!

What about Swindon vs U's FA Cup 1982, last minute winner for them. I said then one day we will go back a day get our revenge. People used to say we were not ready for the National, using the same reasons regarding finances and work needed as they put forward now. Also, from what I understand we are going to have to do most of the ground work this summer, promotion or not promotion. Apart from the pitch of course.

Why are we going to have to do it? The ground meets the National League criteria. Or do you mean it is all planned and going ahead now anyway? Or is there funding access that means it makes sense . . .
Still interested to hear about the plans if that is allowed to be shared!

I’m not sure if anything is confirmed yet but I think the club has said somewhere that the ground will be developed in the summer either or without promotion if that’s correct, whether it was a rumour or someone said it don’t know. I personally think it’s time the ground was developed more into a new seated stand opposite our current main stand and also with the possibility of increasing the size of the GGL End due to the space behind the terrace itself, could easily with the funding replace the 21 year old terrace with a new and larger one.

I'm not sure how so many of you could label an opinion as nonsense when nobody, and I do mean NOBODY has any idea what the actual long term financial implications of promotion to the football league would turn out to be. I do realise this season could represent a one off chance to go up, but that's because it's a weakish division this year with no standout sides and I think whoever goes up will struggle without significant improvement. I'm sure any north Ferriby fans who offered a similar opinion when they went up to the national were also dismissed as spouting nonsense. The leagues are littered with examples of teams that tried to compete at a level that wasn't realistic and paid a heavy price. We've come along way in a short space of time but to me another promotion sounds too much like icarus and melted wings. There's certainly far greater worse case scenarios than just 'coming straight back down'. That said just because I hold this opinion it doesn't mean I'm not fully behind the team. I still would have loved to see it happen this year despite believing it's not best for the club. What we want and what we need are not always the same. Have to say I agree with you, I don’t think going into the FL in our clubs current stature is best but what we want and what we need are different. Personally I want the club to compete as much as possible but I think spending another 2/3 season in the NLP and getting the pitch right and stadium renovations is the best option and then pushing for FL status/promotion but I agree others will think differently. Sometimes one has to accept what is offered or pans out and I feel in our case that if we win promotion then next season will be one of consolidation. And as long as we can finish no lower than 20th, no sweat 😓.

Thanks, I hadn’t heard anything official but may have missed something! Collingwood Rec side is obviously one that we have looked at. I’d say the GGL end unlikely to be developed much with the housing that end. The opposite end has plenty of potential. As always money would be the major issue. Of course the plans could be relatively minor.

I get grief each day from my work colleagues for supporting a “grass roots” side who aren’t given the respect they deserve. Also we surely would enjoy playing a side whose nickname is “The Robins” 😱😂😂

Going back to the origins of this thread, i.e. the Fylde match I start with an apology to the chap and the youngster in front of me far a rather typical Frake outburst late in the match. They moved and I can't blame them for doing so.
Yesterday's defeat was sickening in its manner. Having had the best of the first half by some margin, TW scoring a fine goal and warming the hands of the home 'keeper with an audacious effort on the spin, the home side came out all guns firing for the second. U's seem to have weathered the storm but a missed tackle, a fortunate deflection, a slip and a bloody good finish by the league's top scorer turned the match around for the home side.
If the result wasn't what was needed, certainly the performance was with the midfield trio working bloody hard with my motm, Simon Walton, impressive in front of a back four that played well other than the two errors that proved so costly. Jamie B made one brilliant save in the second half too.
TW worked his socks off up front before being replaced by Dundo, edging ever closer to that 500 mark; don't subscribe to AA's comment about us losing momentum because of that change; it was their first goal that did that. The home crowd (more of later) finally woke up (or stopped moaning at all and sundry) and Rowe got his goal. It is all he did all afternoon other than try and remove Craig E's vitals with a free-kick blasted into the defensive wall with the finesse of a lumbering ox.
The ref did ok but you can't manage modern football successfully when you don't acknowledge a yellow card incident. How can you give a foul that leads to a player having a bloodied nose and not produce? If that's deliberate, it's a card of some colour but as it was God's gift, Rowe, the ref only managed a chat as an after thought. The late foul by Finley that sent LJ flying was without doubt a card offence but this ref must have left them at home.
When they got going Fylde looked decent but Montrose and Finley are horrible and 5 red cards between them this season suggests they really are.
The home support. Close to the end the pa guy requested they applaud the away fan turn out. What a load of sanctimonious crap. Beforehand they had taken great pleasure in goading the U's fans so to then applaud us for being there? Well, you know what you can do with that thank you.
Fylde are up and coming; they have money, a fine ground that can be further developed at one end and the Sports Bar facility was excellent, although they could turn down the heating in there - I thought Northerners were hardened to a cold, wet climate?
A day that had started well with a journey up through W Sussex, cows chewing the cud, lambs in the fields ended with three guys getting off at Littlehampton station all pondering defeat. Me, a QPR fan home from Hull (and pretty drunk) and a Pompey fan back from Rochdale. It's a football hot-bed down here I tell you.
Onto Halifax, weather permitting, and a win probably vital to us retaining a top three position. Play like they did yesterday and the lads can deliver.

Judging by the photos and the highlights it looks like a lovely ground. How many Sutton supporters were there, roughly ? As always not looking for an exact figure just a sensible one !
