The only positive spin I can put on losing three on the trot at the business end of the season is that fans' expectations have been brought back down to earth. In all likelihood we'll be plying our trade at the correct level next season and relentless discussion about making the step up to the fl can return to the background. We're facing a real fight to hang on to a play off place now and it would be really sad to miss out. I desperately hope we don't and I'll be seeing any extension of our season as a real bonus now and just enjoy it for what it is. I really wish that were the case, and for the majority I expect it is. Unfortunately there are a minority who think otherwise. Some of you may be aware of a facebook group called "Sutton UTD Fan Forum", and some people who read Amber Planet are on there. I wouldn't normally do this, but I was astounded by some of the posts on there which I'll copy here. The discussion thread started by someone commenting on Dos's absence from last night's game, and one poster who had an issue with it. I feel it's important enough to share with others who wouldn't get a chance to see it. Some of the comments that left me a little stunned were "We can't even rely on our manager to turn up and manage games cause we're just a hobby." "Sooner we become a professional club the better. Can't do that with Doswell in charge." "I don't want us to ever live in the past. That's the issue I have got with this. I'm not ungrateful for what Doswell has done to get us where we are today but we aren't the small Isthmian League club with 500 through the gate anymore. To keep growing as a club we need more professionalism and having a manager who can (miss a game) at such a crucial moment isn't going to keep growing the club. If anything it's only going to turn new fans to the club away and that is the last thing we should want." "Having a volunteer manager who can do as he please because managing the club is his hobby puts a natural ceiling on this club. Which was fine in 2008 because of where we were but isn't anymore as we find ourselves knocking on the door to the football league." I did suggest that actually he goes and speaks to Dos to maybe understand the reason behind it. As expected I got short shrift from the person and one of their friends. Whilst in this modern age people are of course entitled to their opinion, sometimes they have to realise that with that comes responsibility. Personally someone who comes across in this way (and plenty of people counter argued and got the response of "oh our manager is immune to criticism") totally miss the point. We wouldn't be in the league without Dos. We wouldn't have a great pitch without Dos. We wouldn't have 2000 people with season tickets without Dos. And we wouldn't still be in a play off position without Dos. The chances are we would be a small Isthmian League club. This individual also said "Doswell out" after the Maidenhead game as Dos deciding to call the game off (ironic in itself) was "Awful awful management. I feel very let down by this." I find it a sad sign of the times that after a few defeats some feel the need to turn on Dos like this. We are still 3rd in the league. If we were bottom that would be a different story, but even when we are having our most successful league season in our 120 year history, there are a few who go out of their way to react in such a way. For what it's worth I don't agree with any of the above sentiment.

Never mind,it's not all bad news. The Cricket season starts on Friday. I spotted David Warner & Steve Smith in Sutton High St this afternoon buying their cricket whites, heard they are going to be turning out for Sutton CCC.

Not worthy of giving their words an airing. Sadly, as with all successful/growing clubs, you’re always going to attract some cretins in amongst many decent new faces.

I think part of the problem stems from naivete (from not knowing what SUFC was like before Dos arrived) coupled with a sense of entitlement. People seem to think wanting something is the same as having a right to it. Complaining about someone taking a week or two off work? Utterly self-centred and ridiculous.
At least those of us who understand the situation are supportive of Mr Doswell and the marvellous job he does for us. Nobody says he's perfect but he has done a lot more for our club than those who are criticising him.

Well, they're either "johnny come lately's" or fail to appreciate where we have come from in 10 years under Dos. They understand the football club even less by making such comments. And as for calling it a hobby for Dos, then they obviously have learnt nothing since they have been coming to GGL or since he took over (depending on when they started watching).
As for Maidenhead, the pitch was unplayable and anyone who thinks otherwise exhibits a complete lack of knowledge of football and general common-sense.

Completely unacceptable comments, Doswell is the face of this club and we are the luckiest club in the world to have him as manager and he has done an amazing job with this tiny club from SW London and changed it into a famous club once again and a successful club! Even if we got relegated twice, I wouldn’t ever say Doswell out! He is a legend for this club and I think the only reason that he would leave would be if he honestly couldn’t do it anymore or due to family commitments. Doswell is our hero, our main man and the future of this great club. No one has the right to slag him off.

What annoyed me more than anything about those posts last night was the fact that it was announced on social media (I don’t care it’s a closed group) that Paul was away. It was made clear last season that he was unhappy (that’s putting it mildly) that his absence from his home being announced on social media which could affect his family and unwanted visits was unacceptable. How the poster knew he was away, I don’t know, but he was out of order. Unless any of us has permission from the person no one has the right to announce that they are away, especially overseas. 😠

Just proves what an idiot the guy is. I've read his posts and a couple in support and they lack any sense of knowledge of this football club, of Dos and his management team. He says he has been watching since 1999. Learnt naff all in that period it would seem.

I haven't missed a single first team match at GGL in that time and I haven't a clue who this chap is, so either he hasn't been coming very regularly since 1999 or he's kept a VERY low profile until he very recently suddenly decided to broadcast his opinions from the rooftops.

Unfortunately idiots cannot be filtered out of Facebook so inane and stupid comments are quite often the norm from some people, and as they are not brave enough to stand up in public to face their detractors, well, just ignore them because sooner or later they will put themselves into a situation whereby they’ll be stuffed, literally and metaphorically.

I really don’t see any mileage in copying over posts from elsewhere to here. It comes across as trying to create friction between fans and that is not required, considering some of the previous posts on here.
If people want to say that on another media/forum then if you feel the need of course defend Dos or the club, but fcuk me this is getting incredibly childish.
