Felt closer to 3730 than 2730 in all honesty

what I don't understand is the attendance figure of 2,730 - there seemed to be the biggest crowd of the season, and if there were only 2730 then there have certainly been far less than the 2200 we have claimed for most of the other games this season! Because all season ticket holders were counted in the gate figures for league matches, the actual attendance may have been a bit lower than the stated figures. Season tickets weren't valid for this match, so what you saw was what you got.

Oops, posted this on wrong thread!
Of all the teams in the p/o's Boreham Wood was the one to avoid for U's. They have a style that is Maidenhead but with a bit more quality and in Sunday's heat they were the strongest for the first 70 mins.
That said, U's created some decent opportunities in the first half but conceded when the ball was not properly cleared and with Aswad pulled out of position, Balanta provided an excellent finish.
The second goal was very unfortunate but a good delivery will always cause problems. U's fought hard to get back in the match only to concede a poor third, although Andrade's free-kick was near perfect. Ross L scored from a fine Louis John cross before Smith pulled off a brilliant stop to deny extra-time.
Wembley will have to wait for another season for Sutton while it is a reality for BW and on that showing they will cause Tranmere problems (assuming they have enough fit players).
The ref's union was full on for this match. No less than 8 of them (including two ex-PL matches were sat in the VP's lounge before the match). Sadly, the guy who actually took the whistle wasn't great, infuriating at times in his inconsistency but at least he did add on the time for Smith's treatment, the 'keeper seemingly picking up more injuries in one mild clash (not given as a free-kick) than he would have done if involved in a minor car-crash (head, arm and ankle).
It was not to be. But one defeat should not define a brilliant season. Yes, it has taken a while for me to get to posting but if I was disappointed how must the players and management feel? They gave everything this season to earn the club's highest ever finish and deserved their day out next Saturday but then so had their opponents and they just had that little bit more in the final reckoning.
A few sighs of relief around the KCS. We as a club aren't ready to go up; the ground needs more work (especially when the LBS employs and over officious H&S officer). Why is what was ok for Aldershot's 1,000 plus following not good enough for BW's 450? And of course the 3G lives for another season.
A few decisions put on hold then, as our play-off record continues to frustrate but let's face it, who at the beginning of the season would have had us getting that close? Well done to all at SUFC for showing that a part-time club can outwit, outfight and be superior to so many full-time, ex league clubs plus the Fylde's and Eastleigh's with apparent deep pockets.
A summer of World Cup football beckons and a chance for U's gallant squad and management to re-charge and have another go come August. Second season syndrome? What's that?

Mark F says much of what I wanted to say. It has been a wonderful season. The players we have put out every week have done a brilliant job of covering significant weakness in attack and the lack of ability to score goals from midfield. Boreham Wood were papering over the gaps in their defence, but they did have all their goal-scoring trio - and the one piece of outrageous luck in front of goal. www.footballwebpages.co.uk/national-league/goalscorersThe table in this link is instructive. U’s do not have a second forward in double figures for Sutton. Tommy would have scored more and had an easier task if defenders had to be wary of another one or two hot shots. Tommy apart - you would not back anyone in the squad to take first touch shots from 16-20 yards and score. It is completely different if the ball is crossed into the box in the air. A quality cross, picking out the intended player, can be put away by 5 or 6 players at the club. That we showed against BW. We have perhaps a Lampard+Gerrard problem in our midfield. Two good players who don’t play well together. The team’s success percentage is 57.5% overall. Individually Eastmond (59%) and Beautyman (64.6%) both better it. However when both are on the field together this drops to 53.3%. Harry looked lost in the first half against BW, he played far better in Craig’s slot and absence against Aldershot. Harry was deservedly subbed at half time. As usual it was worth watching the highlights before commenting on the goals conceded. Aswad has been blamed in other posts for the first, but in fact he and Jamie were tight to the players they were marking, it was Terrell who was marking nobody. Terrell should have been on the man Aswad had - leaving Aswad to cover the left-most runner, Balanta, who scored unchallenged. In fact earlier in the move Balanta won a header against Bailey who also failed to track Balanta thereafter. The second goal was Sod’s Law. The stand in BW centre half got his header at goal so wrong it went away from the target, smacked Ross in the face, and looped over Butler. Acting performance of the season goes to the cheeky bugger who celebrated the strike. I can't recall U's scoring a goal as lucky as that this season! Their third was criminal - as Dos remarked in his comments. Neither Louis nor Terrell tracked Folivi who ran between them on the off-chance the free kick ball would rebound off the bar or keeper. It did - and the rest is history.

Tbf to Terrell I think the first was from a goalkick in which Balanta run off the back of Bailey. They play one in behind the front two. Don't think either Centre half nor Aswad could do much as he go a run onto ball into area.

No one has blamed Aswad. He was marking his man and got pulled into the centre as a result. Good movement from BW, their guy making the room for Balanta's run. The credit should go to the BW players rather than criticise any Sutton player.
