I've been scrutinising the World Cup fixtures. I hope I’m wrong, but I believe that our pre-season friendly against Coventry could potentially clash with a World Cup quarter-final involving England (both games have a 3 p.m. kick-off it seems). The scenario would entail finishing runners-up in the group (which is entirely possible) and winning the last-16 match (also quite feasible as we’d be matched up against either Poland, Senegal, Colombia or Japan). It’s a pity our kick-off isn’t a couple of hours beforehand - the club would rake in some serious cash showing the match afterwards (even if England weren't involved). I wonder how Coventry and their supporters would feel if it was switched to 1 o'clock....
Good early spot there ....... The club have fielded a suggestion to move the ko with an ingenious tweet this morning

Curious. The powers-that-be at Dorking Wanderers seem to be under the impression that the whole world and his wife will be craving to watch them at their new stadium. I guess they’ve made it all-ticket because they can’t be too sure how much interest there’ll be for their opening fixture there. When they were hoping to begin life at Meadowbank last season, they’d decided to make their opener against Leatherhead all-ticket and the subsequent game against Billericay. In the end, only 326 turned up at Westhumble for the Billericay game and the 1,014 gate for the derby with Leatherhead would have been inflated due to so many people having bought tickets beforehand. I’ll be quite surprised, however, if a pre-season friendly attracts a capacity crowd of 2,000, bearing in mind that their average gate last season was only about 250. I don't normally do friendlies but this one looks pretty good to be honest - new stadium, not too far away, nice setting for a summer evening. However.....to make it all ticket seems ridiculous!!

How is it ridiculous, its a friendly derby, lots of local interest, new stadium..... make sure that nobody is dissapointed due to turning up and it being sold out.... and they’re playing a team in the top level of non league. Doesn’t sound very ridiculous!

Good early spot there ....... The club have fielded a suggestion to move the ko with an ingenious tweet this morning One of the reasons I mentioned the potential clash back then was to try and get Dave F’s antennae twitching nice and early! I’d like to think that the club is planning to broach the subject with Coventry in the event of England winning through on Tuesday. Let’s say a 12.30 p.m. kick-off…..that would mean something like a 9.30 a.m. start from Coventry. That’s not too bad.
To say that it would be an opportunity lost would be a massive understatement. I shouldn’t think there’d be much interest in Coventry fans coming down if there was a clash. Whereas, if we announced an early kick-off and live screening of an England World Cup quarter-final, the place would be absolutely heaving with fans (from both clubs). In fact, there might not be enough room!

That's an incredibly sensible suggestion, which is why the FA will be having none of it.

Clearly I shamed the FA into submission.

Are the FA really that bothered about what time pre season friendlies kick off?

It'll be so typical of our boys to scupper everything now and lose on penalties to Colombia!

Well, after a heart stopping moment the kick off time was cleverly planned for 1pm. Is it 1996 again? England win a penalty shoot-out.
