Salford City were really good for the first 20 minutes of this match. They were fairly physical and plenty of pushes in the back went unpunished including their goal. However as in other matches so far this season 20 minutes is all they can play at that tempo for. Their goal galvanised us and we got on top. Some nice play ended with a Craig Eastmond leveller with us having the best of the rest of the first half. Second half started in similar vein up until Aswad got sent off for stamping i was told. Backs to the walls but you wouldn't have believed we were a man down and some great play by Josh setting up Ross for the winner. I would say we comfortably held out with great tackling & defending and should go to Ebbsfleet with plenty of confidence having broken our bad run there last season.

Brilliant performance today.
Absolutely stupid red card.
Real team effort. Special mention to Easty who was exceptional. Josh Taylor changed the game with some real quality runs.

Great game, great win. Such grit, determination and organisation in this team. Love it. Thought josh and Aaron’s link up play was fantastic when they both came on.

Wasn't there today but having watched the interviews with Tim, Jeremy and Dos, seen Paul's photos of the game and seen the Strikers are Key result I have a big smile on my face now.
As someone said earlier, SUFC is how you run a football club.

Absolutely fantastic win. Josh Taylor's assist and the build up to Lafayette's goal was sublime. Apparently Gary Neville was in attendance. Anyone grab a autograph? We did ask Gary Neville for a interview but he was very polite and said he needed to shoot off straight after. He did stop to sign a couple of autographs and had a couple of selfies with the kids in front of the cabin on his way out.

All credit to the players for their battling qualities after looking decidedly second-best early on. As others have mentioned, terrific impact from supersub Josh. Bit of a low turnout from Salford fans, wasn’t it? Obviously it’s a long way to come, but I was expecting maybe a couple of hundred or so. I'd like to think our loyal band of travellers will do better than them come February.

We’ve been very spoilt as fans over the last 3 to 4 years with some fabulous results and performances and this is another one to add to the very long list. Credit to the players who were fabulous and to the management team for changing the game with the introduction of Josh Taylor who was immense.

Very spoilt indeed. Magnificent Conference South title followed by an unbelievable cup run. Then finishing 3rd and a semi-final play off. But let's not go there.
Surprised about the 91 Salford fans though. It looked like about 50.

So the City Express rolled into town, Mr G Neville too it would seem but keeping a low profile as appears to be his way at Salford matches. Perhaps the ref had spotted him in the crowd though and not wanting to become another Andy D'Urso put in the sort of performance that the smaller PL clubs often complain about when playing one of the big boys. More of him later.
Salford started well. Organised, strong, quick to the ball they caused early problems but U's appeared to have seen that out when from a corner Piergianni met the ball with a billet header. U's forward play had been long at times and Ross L was getting little joy but the switching of Wis and KC - a left foot to the left wing, a right to the right had almost immediate effect. Good play down the right and Wis got onto the ball in and pulled it back with Craig E firing into the net. 1-1. Craig tried his luck from all of 40 yards and was only a foot over from embarrassing their 'keeper as he patrolled the edge of his box. The half ended with U's in the ascendancy.
Under ten minutes into the second and after a challenge Aswad treads on one of their's who was on the ground at the time. Red card - no argument. Totally out of character and one wonders what drove him into such an action. This was a stiff enough test as it was without such a handicap but now?
On comes Josh Taylor and he somehow gains possession leaves a defender for dead before drawing the rest of the defence to allow Ross L the freedom to convert the pass. Wonderful. The Sutton faithful were up for this and the introduction of Aaron Drinan added to Salford's problems. At times it looked as if Asawd had slipped back on with a couple of extras too as U's looked the more energetic, more capable team than the 11 of Salford. If Rooney's performance was anything to go by, such was how he was marshalled by a bandaged skip and Cloughie, then we must be dead certs for the Irn Bru Cup considering where he stepped onto the gravy train from.
U's defended solidly and Salford barely had a sniff while they looked vulnerable every time U's broke out with Taylor and Drinan in particular, a source of much concern.
A fantastic three points. I wonder what Gazza made of it all? Not sure he and the rest of the money men behind Salford's rise are getting value for their dosh. Still, early days and I suspect they will prove a different prospect in the return, 'cos if not I can't see their manager being in a job by then.
A brilliant squad performance and tactical wonders from the management; can't get better than that.
As for yesterday's ref, at times he seem to be in a daze. From the first minute when Aswad was left on the deck after a late challenge which he totally ignored he seem to be in the thrall that has surrounded Salford. Perhaps he's a Man U fan and didn't want to upset the Class of '92 but whatever it was we got naff all out of him. The red was a red and it wasn't until late on when some of the Salford player's realised their number was up and began to lose discipline that he finally remembered that two teams contest a football match and both will stretch the laws of the game given a chance. Poor.
A great afternoon at KCS/GGL. According to the Salford forum their fans out sung the home support all afternoon. Well, if that's true and I don't recall hearing much from them in the second half, they're welcome. We'll take the three points ta very much. It tends to be the more important thing come the final reckoning.
Onto Ebbsfleet who I suggest will provide our stiffest test yet.

A very succinct review of which I can only add we had a bit of the ball in the first 20 with one shot that the Salford keeper had to make and one heck of an audacious effort that would have made goal of the century if it had gone in.

I thought the Collingwood lino was worse than the one on Tuesday. AIl I saw him do was lift his flag up and down, and sometimes he couldn’t even get that right. A right numpty.

Interesting scoreline that everyone seemed to get wrong. After equalising in the 35th minute our scoreboard showed that we were winning 2-1 for a couple of minutes before it was corrected. Then in the classified results on Radio 5 the score was 1-0 to us.

The Eastleigh players were stealing anything up to twenty yards, sometimes taking throws in our half. The 'assistant' just followed them up the line! 'Numpty' doesn't even come close.

I was really worried about Jamie getting injured and noticed he had to change his kit twice. Just a point though. Are we obliged to have numbers on shorts too?* If someone has to change their shirt they have no number. If two players had to it would cause problems for the officials.
* I know this would be a problem here though as he also had to change his shorts!
