Sutton are currently the 13th highest placed London club in the football pyramid - quite an achievement for a part-time club. A long way to Charlton in 12th place - currently 14th in Division One. No London clubs in Division Two.

No London clubs in Division Two. Another reason why I’m glad we didn’t go up. Looking forward to some easy away trips to Barnet, Daggers and Orient this season.

I can’t think who I’ve missed..I’ve got us at 12th - I don’t think Watford are classed as a London club as they’re situated in Hertfordshire

No I wouldn't count Watford either. If you're not in a London borough, you're not a London club. I've got us at 12th too.
1 Chelsea (3rd, PL) 2 Tottenham (5th, PL) 3 Crystal Palace (10th, PL) 4 Arsenal (17th, PL) 5 Fulham (18th, PL) 6 West Ham (19th, PL) 7 Brentford (4th, C) 8 Millwall (14th, C) 9 QPR (24th, C) 10 AFC Wimbledon (12th, L1) 11 Charlton (14th, L1)
And yes Tony you're quite right. If we had gone up our closest away league game would have been Crawley, which is closer than, say, Boreham Wood, but the next closest would be the likes of Stevenage, Colchester, MK Dons et al.

I would go with this:
1 Sutton United (4th NL) 2 Tottenham Hotspur (5th, PL) 3 Millwall (14th, C) 4 West Ham (19th, PL) 5 AFC Wimbledon (12th, L1) 6 Charlton (14th, L1) 7 Brentford (4th, C) 8 QPR (24th, C) 10 Fulham (18th, PL) 11 onwards, a load of also-rans
(The title did say 'Best' and not 'highest').

I agree that if you don't include Watford, Sutton are 12th.

Can't believe we got 9 posts in the thread and there's not been the London/Surrey subject brought up again. This just isn't the Amber Planet I remember...

Not if you're my mother. She flat out disagrees that Sutton is in London, as if it's her decision According to her, it's GREATER London, not London. I'm a bit baffled as to what she thinks the difference is. I think the only possible "correct" division between the two is if she thinks everything outside of the City of London administrative area is not in fact London. Which means almost none of London (including the Houses of Parliament, Chelsea, Waterloo etc) is actually part of London...

Your mum! 😁😁 You could argue that the area within compass-defined postal districts (E, EC, N etc) is London whereas the wider area within the capital's 32 Boroughs (plus the City) is Greater London.

Much too complicated all that malarkey ...... Keep it simple ...... Anything inside the M25 innit.
