Hooray! A home game at last as we welcome Chesterfield to GGL tomorrow evening - a first game this season against either of last season’s relegated sides from League Two.
With Martin Allen (aka Mad Dog) at the helm and after winning their first three games Chesterfield haven’t won in the league since, though signs of improvement are evident after a good win at Fylde in the cup recently. Apparently striker Tom Denton is suspended for this game - handy for us as I think he caused us problems for Halifax last season.
Hopefully we can follow up our excellent win at Hartlepool with a result in this game also. Up the U’s!

Wasn't Martin Allen manager of the Notts County team that visited GGL a few years back in the FA Cup?

Wasn't Martin Allen manager of the Notts County team that visited GGL a few years back in the FA Cup? Yes. 2nd round in the 2011/12 season. We'd also played Notts at GGL in the 1st round three seasons earlier. We lost both games.

Struggled in midweek games couple times against struggling opposition will be a tough test tonight not underestimating it at all.

Got to put her to bed, played really well for the majority especially from about 30 minutes until 75 needed the second goal, luck and composure deserted us.
Not the subs I would have gone for Ayunga unless shattered or carrying a knock had to be left on for me simply for the fact he can crop up with a goal he did go quiet in the second however. Bolly had a good game not sure I would of taken him off and left Drinan up top for that particular scenario.
Thought Drinan was encouraging today not strong enough but mixed it around and made some clever runs. Not having a striker who can bag 20 in this league will cost us though but then again I suppose you could say that for most teams.
Hugely frustrating in respects to how good we actually can be when we want to. Big statement but this side when everyone is fit could easily compete for the league, just a shame with Tommy's injury then the fact Ayunga probably won't be with us next season.

Struggled in midweek games couple times against struggling opposition will be a tough test tonight not underestimating it at all. Come on the U'ssssss Can anyone remember a confident home performance? Well on top in the first half. I cannot remember JB having to make a save and then once Kieron hit the bar we go into nervous mode as we have done at home when protecting a lead and try to see out the last 25 minutes. We take off two attaciking players and camp on our 18 yard box and giving Chesterfield as much posession as they want. No surprise they eventually muster a shot that goes in. We send Charlie Clough forward instead of playing five at the back and in those closing two minutes give their back four something to think about. Game went from we can get two or three goals here to, they are getting on top, to they are going to score. Inevitably sitting back and surrendering possession does not make for a great spectacle nor in this instance a great result.

Thought that spell in the middle of the game was great to watch truly magnificent stuff bar sticking it in the net, your evaluation after that is very true and sadly left us throwing away two points again.

It's a measure of how far this club has come that we're disappointed only to draw at home against Chesterfield, a club that just four seasons ago finished 6th in League One, and whom we were meeting for the first time. But I agree that this is a match we should have won. Our slick first-half display reminded me of the performance on a Tuesday evening last October, at Aldershot. But that was a game we also only drew.
This evening we'd already gone close a few times before Jonah profited from some slack Chesterfield defending to score his second Sutton goal. The visitors offered little, their main weapon being the monster throws of Sam Muggleton. But sitting back to defend a single-goal lead, as we did in the final quarter-hour, is always risky. In the 90th minute they worked the ball across our area to Stevenage loanee Jonathan Smith whose low shot beat Jamie Butler.
On a night when only sides in the top six and bottom four managed to win, we stay 8th, and have closed the gap on 7th-placed Gateshead to two points.

Very similar to Dover game losing the impetus and that’s 4 extra points that should have comfortably been in our pockets. Very disappointing to slowly lose our way in the 2nd half. Will probably put down to tiredness after recent efforts on the road but we should have got over the line despite this. Chesterfield were miles off us first half, looked a league apart. Thought we were slow to use the subs bench.
Think we’re a little light up front to threaten the top places personally, goals wise and aerially. Love Jonah though, some player he is (on the ground!). Cadogan in the advanced midfield role was our best player in my opinion.
Could be worse, we could be Maidenhead . . . Just wow. Thought Havant would struggle to score 7 in 2 months of games!!

Agreed ,we are a little light up front & could have done with a fresh striker on during that second half as i thought Drinan especially, looked very tired. Hopefully if we can win a few more cup ties then funds will become available.

As others have said that's 2 points lost. By far the better team for 75 minutes of the game. Chesterfield were awful but we didn't put them away. Tombo missed a sitter in the first half and several other chances went begging. As time went while it was still 1-0 I think a lot of us knew what was going to happen. It was the first time a shot went anywhere near our goal. So disappointing.
One for Frakey. I think that's the first time we've ever played a team from Derbyshire. If so I think Leicestershire may be the only county left in England where we haven't played a team from there (I'm including Rutland as part of Leicestershire).

One shot, one goal. Such an annoying way to drop points. Like others, I was a little surprised that Jonah was taken off. For me, Drinan would have been a better choice to substitute.
As regards reinforcements up front, Dos might consider enquiring with Dundee about Roarie, even if it were only to be on loan. He hasn’t exactly set Scotland alight and he’s hardly had any game time this season.

I did wonder whether that was the case. Still, it can't hurt for Dos to make enquiries!
