I did wonder whether that was the case. Still, it can't hurt for Dos to make enquiries! For the record, if we can provide any form of assistance in helping Roarie get back into regular first team football, I would love to see him back here as a loanee...

As others have said that's 2 points lost. By far the better team for 75 minutes of the game. Chesterfield were awful but we didn't put them away. Tombo missed a sitter in the first half and several other chances went begging. As time went while it was still 1-0 I think a lot of us knew what was going to happen. It was the first time a shot went anywhere near our goal. So disappointing. One for Frakey. I think that's the first time we've ever played a team from Derbyshire. If so I think Leicestershire may be the only county left in England where we haven't played a team from there (I'm including Rutland as part of Leicestershire). We had a friendly against Leicester City a few years ago if that counts. Have we ever played anyone from Northumberland? Unless you're lumping Tyne & Wear in with that...

Midweek at home. Similar to reading your 4th Graham Greene novel. By now you know the author does not do happy endings, so when you get the the final chapter and the principal is still ahead of the game, you start looking for the source of his downfall. It may not have been said but it was thought that the only ways U's could cock up the win would be collecting a second yellow, or making the wrong substitutions. Maybe Kenny and Tom were subbed off because they had one yellow, but Jonah off for Dean was an unforced hang-on move than backfired. Because with only KC left up front the ball kept coming back as soon as we cleared it, and their spare defenders could move forward - a full back scored.
Shame because for most of that game u's were brilliant, the front 3 carving the Spireites open at will. Chesterfield nowhere as an attacking force, but throwing bodies in the way of shots. Unfortunately Jonah's well taken goal was all we had to show for the dominance.
Dos was forthright in the post match interview - he hates Mad Dog's tactics and it is horrible to watch. However 'extreme-tactics' sides play that way because they are good at it. Sutton's extreme-tactic - taking off attackers and bringing on more defenders to shut up shop when leading - isn't something we are good at.

I must admit i had no idea we played Leicester. Can't remember that. I knew there would be a county I missed. Not much chance of playing anyone from Northumberland unless Blyth get promoted. Sadly we didn't get Berwick in the Irn Bru and the only other senior (ish) club is Morpeth I think.

Last night's late equaliser means that we have won only one of our last six at home while we have won four of the last five away. The comment on Chesterfield's forum about the 3G being a definite advantage to Sutton therefore looks a little lame based on that evidence; a comment that perhaps tries to hide the deficiencies of his team yesterday evening.
Let's face it, U's outplayed them for so long but couldn't get a second with KC's effort hitting the bar via the faintest of touches by their 'keeper. However, posts on here about us sitting back don't give credit to Martin Allen's substitutions because while he says they weren't that of a genius they did change his team's approach and Chesterfield had more energy as the match wore on.
Perhaps that is the difference between being part-time and full-time - a fact that some on this forum appear to forget. Yes it was galling to lose two points so late on and even though U's had been under the cosh I still couldn't see an equaliser coming until their only shot of any note found the bottom corner.
The substitutions made have come under some scrutiny. Tom B seemed to have injured his hip after an opponent fell on him following a challenge while both Jonah and Aaron were having breathers quite early in the second half. So I guess it was a case of who was becoming the less effective because of fatigue. They are young lads learning the game and that may include pacing themselves. Plus there was the long away trip on Saturday that can be draining for the average traveller let a lone add 90 mins of top non-league football on top.
By the time Dean B was introduced as extra defensive cover U's had already been pushed back so while I can see why some may point the finger about that tactic I can also see why we did it.
U's had put so much effort into completely controlling the first half with only one goal to show for it that the attacking threat we had dissipated in the second.
Certainly comes to something when we're gutted to have dropped points to a club the size of Chesterfield, irrespective of their league position and most observers would have taken 4 points from the 6 on offer over these two matches just maybe not expected in the sequence that they were collected.
For the most part, the team applied itself extremely well last night. They defended Spirites main attacking ploy, an incredibly long and flat throw, very well, competed all over the pitch and probably should have been two goals to the good at the interval. It wasn't to be though.
Thirty points from 17 games in this league is very decent return and of the clubs that have come out of the NLS in recent seasons, SUFC looks to be the best established at this level and that should be applauded by all.
Quick note on our mate Mr Rock. No complaints. A few inconsistencies but one of the better performances in recent weeks although he could have rained in their skipper who over reacted to a couple of fouls that earned yellow cards. One ref on the pitch is enough thanks mate.
Onto improving D&R who will include Balanta in their ranks. His last visit to GGL ended with a hamstring pull but a 4-0 win to Boreham Wood.

I don’t usually add to MARK F - however feel the need this time. The point MARK raises about part time is huge. And it’s a point Paul D reaffirmed to me last night and the fact we don’t stay overnight on the long northern journeys (typical cost of these can be £3K). So concluding - we all need to remember these points when dissecting the team’s performances especially after the long trips undertaken in October.

In case anybody thinks I am "parroting" Dos in my observations, I should state that I had not listened to PD's interview before posting.

That number 22 of theirs was a nasty little bastard. I shouldn't really say this but he deserved to really be hurt by someone.

Saw a team coach in the car park so assume Chesterfield travelled to us and back in a day?

You would have thought so. It's Derbyshire so not far enough to warrant an overnight stop you would think.

What ever the reasons, or style Chesterfield and any other team play, the deficiencies are ours. Failure to put away more than 1 of the 5 or 6 chances we had did not help. Its not a one off, especially when it comes to Tuesday night matches. The list below is all our 7.45 Tue KO for the last 3 seasons, how may of them were we in winning positions?
5 wins from 15 at home is not up to our normal win ratio, just 1.33 pts per match
Tue 7.45 H Eastleigh NL W Tue 7.45 H Boreham Wood NL L Tue 7.45 H Dover NL D Tue 7.45 H Chesterfield NL D
Tue 16 7.45 H Torquay United NL W Tue 13 7.45 H Braintree Town NL L Tue 25 7.45 H Maidstone United NL D Tue 29 7.45 H Dover Athletic NL L Tue 28 7.45 H Boreham Wood NL W Tue 14 7.45 H Forest Green Rovers NL L Tue 28 7.45 H Lincoln City NL D
