I've just seen on the FA website that the tie has been awarded to Clevedon - subject to appeal. Anybody know any more about this? <iframe width="18.720000000000027" height="3.240000000000009" style="position: absolute; width: 18.720000000000027px; height: 3.240000000000009px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none;left: 15px; top: -5px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_244856" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="18.720000000000027" height="3.240000000000009" style="position: absolute; width: 18.72px; height: 3.24px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 881px; top: -5px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_34955971" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="18.720000000000027" height="3.240000000000009" style="position: absolute; width: 18.72px; height: 3.24px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 15px; top: 102px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_30521975" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="18.720000000000027" height="3.240000000000009" style="position: absolute; width: 18.72px; height: 3.24px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 881px; top: 102px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_46889036" scrolling="no"></iframe> The fixtures page has also been updated to show Clevedon at home to Man City in the 3rd round subject to appeal. No information provided as to why. Very worrying.

Such a shame after the excitement of drawing Man City. With a long interval since the game it is unlikely to be an on-pitch incident, probably fielding an ineligible player. Age, cup-tied, suspended are the common reasons.

Let's not jump to any premature conclusions. There's been no statement from the club about this, and the FA webpage does say "subject to appeal".

As pinewalker suggested, the issue relates to the fielding of an ineligible player. Here's hoping the decision is appealable. If not, then let nothing detract from the excellent achievement of our youth team in getting this far in the competition... www.suttonunited.net/fa-youth-cup/

Although I don't know the ins and outs of this one, I must say it seems terribly harsh to remove us from the competition altogether. I distinctly recall West Ham United fielding an ineligible player (Manny Omoyinmi) in the quarter finals of the League Cup, and their punishment from the FA was to replay the match. West Ham lost the replay. Whilst I appreciate that there's a danger in comparing like with like, it does appear rather inconsistent that when a Premiership club fields an ineligible player in a major tournament, the FA treats them considerably more leniently than a non-league club gets treated in a youth competition... www.independent.co.uk/sport/football-redknapp-hits-out-at-harsh-replay-decision-1133661.html

The FA is supposed to look at each case on its own merits and decide individually what steps they should take. There certainly have been several cases where a team has been thrown out without replay. No idea what the criteria are, but when Concord fielded an ineligible player against us in the FA Trophy a few seasons ago I think he came on as a sub and maybe didn't have a huge impact on the game? To be honest I can't remember that well but of course they had to replay the game with us but forfeit their home advantage and play it at our ground. Having lost the original tie we won the replay so they may as well have been booted out!

A more extreme case happened at AFC Wimbledon a few years back (when I believe they were still non league) where a player, Jermaine Darlington, played in a number of matches before it was worked out that he hadn't had international clearance. Initially the Dons were deducted all the points they gained in those matches (which I think was around 18) and kicked out of all competitions they were in at the time (SSC and Trophy). On appeal the 18 point deduction was reduced to 3, but they were not allowed to re-enter the cup competitions.

If you're a current/former Premiership manager then it doesn't matter if you field ineligible players or forget to pay your tax. Just ask Harry "I'm A Celebrity" Redknapp...

So who cocked up then? This isn't the first cock-up in recent times. When we won the league a couple of years ago weren't we in danger in missing out with a point deduction?
