Halifax match preview: linkFC Halifax Town are once again at the Shay this week after hosting Boreham Wood in a 1-1 draw on Tuesday night. Town welcome Sutton United this Saturday to the Shay for a 3pm kick off. The Shaymen remain in 16th position after Tuesdays 1-1 draw on 27 points, only one point behind Barnet and Dagenham & Redbridge who are just above Town. The U’s will travel up from London in 8th position on 37 points and will be looking to put themselves back in the play-off positions. The U’s were not in action on Tuesday night but were in FA Trophy action away to Bromley where they suffered a 2-1 loss conceding two goals in two minutes. Their last action in the Vanarama National League was a 2-2 draw at home to fellow promotion chasers Solihull Moors. Sutton come to the Shay in a bad patch of form as the U’s have not won in five games in the league drawing four losing one to Maidenhead United. The last time Sutton were victorious in the league was a 1-0 win over Dagenham & Redbridge back on the 3rd November. During that time they’ve had draws against Braintree Town, Gateshead and also a shock defeat to Slough Town in FA Cup first round replay. The National League South side beat The U’s 8-7 on penalties. The Shaymen come into the game undefeated in three across all competitions and win against Sutton will lift Town onto 30 points which if results go our way will put us in 14th position. If you are unable to make it down to The MBi Shay Stadium you can listen live audio commentary from the Shay at 2:45pm for a 3pm kick off this Saturday. Match Officials Referee: Marc Edwards Assistant Referee’s: Paul Tomes & Stuart Richardson Fourth Official: Daniel Guest FC Halifax Town match day prices for the 2018/19 season are as follows: Adults £20 Concessions (Over 65’s and Students with ID) £17 12 to 17 year olds £9 U12’s £5 U7’s £3

Not a great game to watch, with defences mostly in control, but in a tight match such as this there's always the possibility of a late chance to snatch the points. And so it proved, Craig Eastmond lashing home the game's only goal in the 93rd minute. That made up for the late winner we conceded at The Shay last season.

As games of Football go this was a long way from a classic! At times the quality from both sides was quite poor with stray passes and ineffectual decision making (pitch was tricky of course). Much of the game was played in the middle third of the pitch with both teams seeming to cancel the other out. For a while the only entertainment to stir the soul was in the stands with the entertaining verbal exchanges between our supporters and the gawping teenagers nearby! The ref officiated "a la Christmas" by doing his best to create a pantomime/horror show with some of his frankly bizarre decisions (both ways!)
However in injury time Easty converted from 15 yards after a foray down the right flank to make everything right in the world again! There were great performances from just about everyone in the team but would pick out Kenny D as my MOM. Merry Xmas one and all!

Well that was fun and a long day after setting off at 6am and getting home just before midnight, but boy was it worth it.
I would urge you to read the Gandermonium blog when it comes out, it should be a classic.
The game itself was poor but there was plenty of effort from the players. The pitch was a mess (I’m glad we’ve played them now as I think a few games could be off next year) and that contributed greatly. Jamie B made several smart saves and our shots, which were mainly in the last 15 minutes were straight at the keeper with Eastmond and Beautyman having the best chances. However you shouldn’t give Craig a second chance and after great work by Williams, who had a decent game winning many a flick on, he cut the ball back to Craig who was in a similar position to his chance 5 mins earlier and this time made no mistake. We went wild.
Somehow Williams got booked for some imaginary fouls, Baird got sent off after a nasty challenge on skip I think. Rather strange from the ref and his asssistants.
Brad Pearce put in another assures performance and it was good to see Harry put in a really good display but for me Kenny D was MOTM. A really outstanding performance.
Onto Bromley on Boxing Day which will hopefully pass without incident.
Merry Christmas one and all.
