I spoke briefly with Nathan in the bar after the game and he confirmed what previous posters have said about comments made to him. At that moment I felt embarrassed to be a Sutton Utd fan and immediately apologised to Nathan. He shrugged and said said something like “that’s just the way it is”!
Why should Nathan have to go around the National League grounds and expect this sort of behaviour as the norm? Is there anything that we can do as Sutton Utd fans to police this ourselves?
Unless we do something about this then WE will all be judged as racist homophobes.

Do you have enough on him to get him banned? Doesn't sound like he has made any effort to be discreet and such people should not be welcome at any football ground, let alone Suttons. Unless the stewards patrolling the ground have hearing impairments there is absolutely no way they would not have heard what he was shouting. From my perspective, he said more than enough to earn himself a final warning. He's well and truly on my radar now, and if I ever hear/see similar conduct from him at future matches then yes, I would reasonably expect him to be ejected.

There are lots of great comments regarding the club and fans on the Fleet forum.
Unfortunately there was one negative one....
*****
... One of their number (tubby lad in a snide burberry cap) started calling Nathan a "fat paedo" as soon as he got in goal reported him to stewards and old bill. Police updated in second half saying he had been spoken to but not removed.

According to Ebbsfleet forum this cretin was spoken to by police/stewards, no other info.

Sadly this was the case previously and it seems the minority did it again. Can you please report this to the club so that the individual can be recognised by them. Sorry but these arseholes have no place with us.

Maybe recording him would be proof. Or rather, recording the game while close to him

Worst part of it was the guy was with a young lad, presumably his son. He was standing around half way between the centre circle and colingwood penalty area back of the rec terrace, mostly surrounded by fleet fans, presumably for effect. First I thought he might have tourettes but my opinion shifted to thinking he is probably just a low IQ moron with very limited vocabulary and easily 'over exciteable'.
I'm partial to the odd swear but this was constant and any player who hit the deck was loudly deemed a 'faggot' which is no more acceptable than a racial slur in this day and age.
When I told him to calm down and ease up on the swearing he told me that if I didn't like it I could F off back to Ebbsfleet. I informed I'm a Sutton fan and reminded him there was a child next to him, which calmed him down a bit but I probably should have reported him and will do next time.

I assume you're talking about a separate issue as the stuff aimed at Nathan A appears to have come from behind the goal.
I was standing on the Collingwood terrace but don't recall hearing the f word. Not that one anyway!

Although the punishment should be the same for anyone who makes, racist, homophobic or anti Semitic comments etc. The fact is you will always get the odd idiot who thinks its fun simply to do it because it winds people up.
I don't know how to put this, but those who feel the need to make these comments deliberately because they know its wrong, are actually showing how much good the likes of Nathan Ashmore are doing by getting the message home. To put it another way he is actually drawing the sting out into the open for us all to see. Maybe that chap yesterday would not have made those comments if Nathan wasn't there and didn't have his campaign, and none of us would know about this rather poor human being within our ranks.
The downside for anyone who campaigns about these things is that are going to get targeted by the very small minority, not good for the individual but almost like taking one for the team so to speak.
Is that a load of crap I just wrote ??

Is that a load of crap I just wrote ?? Not crap at all, and I wish actually it were true. I think the sad fact is that there are a minority of supporters at every club who feel that sort of behaviour is acceptable in whichever form it takes. We certainly saw some of that at Eastleigh the previous week. And I'm sure we will encounter this again this season. One of the problems attached to this is that people are quick to make judgements based on the behaviour of a few individuals. Whether it be those who think Ebbsfleet are "cheating bastards" based simply on the actions of Danny Kedwell, those who think Eastleigh fans are scum based the behaviour of those 5 or so individuals who were quite horrid last week, or those who tarnish Sutton fans as disgusting because of a few individuals who think it's appropriate to call opposing players "Nonces" with blinding regularity and without provocation. Some may say "who gives a stuff what other fans think of us". Yeah perhaps that's true, but you should give a stuff of what decision makers think of us as a collective because that can make a lot of work, extra policing costs and other hassle that the club we love and support don't need and shouldn't have to face based on the actions of a few idiots.

I'm sure that I am not alone in feeling very disheartened at coming back to this thread, following the pride and togetherness that I had felt in being part of such a great set of supporters when it was initiated.
Something I have seen at other grounds which could be introduced at GGL is a phone number that fans can text to report this behaviour. Put the number in the programme and ensure it is directed to a club official who could direct the stewards/police to take action. If we already have that then apologies, I have not been home for a week so haven't had the chance to check the last programme!

Bearing in mind not everyone reads the programme, it could also be on posters and/or the electronic scoreboard.

Why not print the number on admission tickets and on the season tickets?

That is sort of the whole point I was making, you are disheartened because of the deliberate baiting of some inadequate human being who would shout the opposite of anything for effect. You can't actually fix these people, only ostracize them.
