The visit of Ebbsfleet tomorrow brings Nathan Ashmore down to Gander Green Lane. Nathan has suffered abuse (both physical and racist) at some away games recently. We at Sutton Utd are welcoming and friendly and support our team in a positive way. When Nathan takes his position in front of our fans can we give him a round of applause and make his trip to GGL memorable for all the right reasons? Get behind our boys. COYYs.

Couldn't agree more but with one tiny caveat - as well as him remembering the trip fondly for a positive reaction from our supporters, I wouldn't be complaining if he has to pick the ball out of the net 5 or 6 times either
Seriously though, spot on. It's amazing we still need to have conversations like this in 2019 but sadly there are still plenty of cavemen (and women) about.

I encountered a fair few neanderthals in my years of attending Upton Park, but our lot always applauded the away team's goalkeeper, regardless of their origin. I always thought that was a good tradition to have. Added to that, I know Nathan's been through a lot over the years, he's more than earned some respect in my book.

He's a cracking keeper too!
Goalkeepers, I suppose, know they will get stick as part of the job. It's not great, but it's a fact of life. But getting more abuse than other goalkeepers just because you aren't white? That's worse than unfair, it's disgusting. I think it's a great idea to show our support for him as an individual even if we don't support his team!

Couldn't agree more! Let's hope the couple of idiots we've had in the past few encounters are reading this too, and as the majority of supporters who don't follow speak up to them if they do. That stuff has no place at GGL and really shouldn't have a place anywhere.

Andy / Sally - Excellent stuff, wish I was there to see it in motion but I'm moonlighting with Gillingham down at Swansea in the cup, tomorrow.
Have to say I've never heard any racist abuse meted out at GGL although unfortunately can't say the same about homophobic abuse albeit that was from an away fan (2-2 v York the other season). I wish I'd confronted him to be honest but I bottled out of causing a scene.

Carl, that's one of the best suggestions I've heard on this forum for a long time. Perhaps SUFCTV could capture the moment on film as well.

I feel sorry for goalkeepers, they can be on the end of some really vile abuse from opposition fans for no reason. Let us collectively prove we’re above such things tomorrow

Well I hope any idiots read this, I know Nathan would appreciate the kind words said on here. He's a top class bloke, and a great keeper to boot. He'll enjoy banter with fans, is highly thought of at the Fleet, and he's very approachable. Your a bit of a bogey team for us, so I'm hoping for a result for us obviously, but lets hope for a great game.

Got a lot of time for Nathan going back to his time at Gosport. We used to have a proper laugh with him and respected him as an outstanding keeper.

It's a shame that one of our number saw fit to launch homophobic abuse towards Nathan throughout the first half, and the comments about Nathan's weight, peppered with the c-word were rather ironic given that he was no shrinking violet himself. An absolute disgrace to the Sutton away shirt he was wearing. The parents with children standing nearby didn't want to hear that, but polite requests asking him to calm down were met with contempt. Total scumbag.

Do you have enough on him to get him banned? Doesn't sound like he has made any effort to be discreet and such people should not be welcome at any football ground, let alone Suttons.
