With regards to the title of this thread, it would appear we all are on 20th July

Can’t think of a worse place to go at the moment. Won’t be a good look if we lose.

In truth Dos is only picking up players we have released, although I would have kept Jonah myself, clearly we couldn't continue with the same team, so its all down to who Matt now brings in to replace them.

Of course no issue with Dos at all, wish him all the best. Just puts extra perhaps unnecessary pressure on Matt to get a result against players who we’ve let go.

It's a pre-season friendly. I don't think that there will be any extra unnecessary pressure at all.

Good, he is a tough lad, I am sure he can handle it

Absolute claptrap

Couldn't agree more. Friendlies are for experimenting and tinkering with the team to see what works and who plays well together. I've seen us lose to appallingly bad sides in friendlies. Who cares? I've always thought the adage about bad dress rehearsal/good performance worked well for pre-season vs competitive games. It's actually not a bad thing if you play badly in pre-season because the management team can get a better idea of what doesn't work/what can go wrong with the current team. Try a particular defensive system and it doesn't work and you concede 3 in the first 45? Sod it, change it around at half time, put a different side out and see how your other idea pans out 2nd half.
If we play Havant and both sides make 12 subs and spend 10 minutes faffing about with water bottles on the clock, why would the score at the end of the game be considered significant at all?

Friendlies to me mean getting the best prep for the new season for our squad or bring in needed finances to the club. I'll let you guys decide whether playing away at Havant against a side that will contain at least 3 players released by Sutton (as in deemed surplus to requirements) ticks either of those boxes. But the result means nothing whatsoever.
Playing a friendly against SCR I think is worse though. No idea who is home or away and where the takings will go. I presume this is connected with Neset signing for us last season as a thank you or part of the deal. But in any case it fails to fit either of the criteria, but that's fine if other friendlies do.

I think there's a third function of friendlies which is building and strengthening relationships between clubs, which might end up being to everyone's advantage when cutting deals in the future, etc...
Maybe not as important as the two you listed though.
