The future of your fiver remains in the balance, as the calls for allowing supporters to attend matches next month intensify... www.thenonleaguefootballpaper.com/features/vanarama/31354/fans-and-clubs-take-to-non-league-paper-to-call-for-commonsense/I am currently watching the Snooker World Championship on telly. The vast majority of the Crucible audience, numbering several hundred, are not wearing masks in the indoor venue, yet as things currently stand, September's National League friendlies have to be played behind closed doors. One of countless jarring inconsistencies the last few of months have thrown up... I heard a story over the weekend that Littlehampton FC having to play games behind closed doors, yet the cricket club (which they share the same ground with) are playing in front of crowds. The crowds they get are similar (both under 100) yet because of the sport (not the venue) different rules apply. Madness, isn't it? Back in the early nineties, as a callow student I wrote my dissertation on how football supporters were less favourably treated than fans of other sports, often without justification. How little things have changed..

One can only assume that the powers that be think that cricket fans will only clap and applaud politely whilst simultaneously reckon football fans, (rapscallions, the lot of them) will celebrate and hug everyone in sight when a goal is scored.

Indeed. But wasn't it Einstein that said insanity is going through life day in day out doing the same thing and expect results to change?
This whole thing smacks of insanity.
