Tomorrow night sees Sutton open their home campaign as we welcome Barnet from north of the river. I’m really hoping we can build on the fantastic opening day win we produced up at Hartlepool. Barnet, however also won on Saturday edging out Yeovil 1-0.
A quick glance at the match-thread on Barnets forum isn’t exactly complimentary to us.. maybe they’re getting the excuses in early - “with one of the poorest examples of a plastic pitch in this league, with the Trampoline bounce“ and “Sutton's rugby playing style” - both comments so wide of the mark.
We’ll welcome back Craig Eastmond from suspension tomorrow night but I’m wondering if Matt Gray will stick with the same side that triumphed at the weekend.

This will be our third meeting with yo-yo champions Barnet in the space of six months. Their big summer signing was Scott Loach, for my money one of the best keepers at this level. Having put three past his successor at Hartlepool on Saturday, can our players beat the big man tomorrow evening?
We played 4-5-1 on Saturday, and I'd expect a switch to 4-4-2 tomorrow. Maybe Eastmond in for Davis, with Barden also dropping to the bench, and Bugiel starting up front alongside Jarvis or Kearney.
There may be a doubt about Ben Goodliffe who went off with cramp late in the Hartlepool game, Dan Matzusaka his replacement.

Craig hasn't been fit in pre season so may need a few training sessions and/or minutes from the bench. Think Matt said in 1 interview (?) he generally intends to play 2 forwards at home so he might make that change. Time will tell. Looking forward to my first look at the new team (although I make it only 4 new players from last season in starting line up Saturday so Matt kept some continuity there. All 3 subs were new too so certainly a decent turnover in the wider squad).

Although I wasn't there on Saturday, I just get the feeling that our style of play is going to be different this season. I think that the usual cries of "very physical side" (meaning fans of other clubs saying we're just thugs) will probably have less justification in saying such.

Looking at that Barnet Fans' Forum thread.
Quite how some of these posters think out team manage to play an entire season on our 'nightmare' pitch without all getting totally crocked before January defeats me.
Still, any stick to beat you with...

You'd think the fans of a team like Barnet might want to focus on themselves given they couldn't even manage a goal a game last season. Hardly a style to set the pulse racing. I'm sure their change of manager will be looking to be a better team themselves rather than make pathetic excuses for defeat (or not winning). It's hardly a new theme with fans in this league.

I see that Barnet have signed Dong Dong for tomorrow's match... Perhaps they would have preferred to play us in the 'spring'.

It’s better than being called Dingle Dangle.

Am I right in thinking Dan Sweeney is suspended for the Bees tonight? He got a 3 match ban at the end of last season, which I think has spilled over into this season.

Correct, at least for tonight’s game. It seems that they have a couple of not 100% fit players and are having trouble deciding whether or not to play them on our “terrible” pitch. Oh, such a dilemma when you are a biased fan 🤔
