And 3-0 to the visitors is how it finished. To describe what was mostly an academy side (Ollie Khinda and Tobi Ogundega the only exceptions) as inept is rather harsh, but Farnham, with the wind behind them, were certainly the stronger side in the first half-hour. Our lads gave it a real go after that, and forced a good save from the visiting keeper on the stroke of half-time. But, despite some promising approach play, they weren't able to find a breakthrough in the second half.
This academy side defeated Epsom & Ewell and Horley in earlier rounds, but both of those are in the lower half of the CCL Premier South. Farnham are top of that division, in which they haven't lost a game all season. This was always going to be a sterner test.

The academy are capable of beating step 5 opposition in this competition. Any higher and a stronger side needs to be put out to make it competitive. That Farnham team are probably closer to step 3 level than they are step 5 in terms of players

Talking to Jimmy Dack afterwards, he explained that some of the better prospects are younger lads and he didn’t think it right to be be fielding 15 and 16 year-olds, so this wasn’t even a full-strength academy side. But we did play some lovely one touch football in spells in the second half, but they seemed to find the Farnham defenders too physically strong. Good experience for them though.

Sutton 3-0 down after 25 minutes. Farnham much the better team. Sutton playing hit and hope Sunday league standard football. Incredibly disappointing inept performance from our youngsters so far. What an absolutely inept statement the above is. Some of those Sutton players are what an academy suggests, youth team. They were playing against a side who have lost something like two matches all season and have taken an Isthmian Premier scalp in the SSC this season. Not only that, they had to defend against a strong wind in the first half. I thought they battled well and to their credit kept going for the full 90. It was a huge ask and that post suggests ignorance with regards the difference between academy and senior men's football.

Farnham were bursting with confidence and came out the blocks quickly. First half we started too slow and were overwhelmed a bit, but towards the end of the half, they found their feet and should have scored a decent goal.
Second half you could see why our academy has been doing quite well, nice passing and opening them up, and also restricted them to about one shot on goal. But it comes down to experience, a crazy first 30m where they gave them too much space meant the game was already over.
I must comment on a few moronic fans who were shouting out that we were rubbish when we were 3-0 down. Perhaps they are not aware that these players are not professional or even first-team players, and that they are here learning their trade. Or perhaps they thought denting a bunch of 16-year-olds confidence would help the club?
I think we have some good young players who will be better next year, hopefully they will keep the good work up.

South Park defeated Farnham this evening to win the SSC.
Congratulations to former U's favourite, Ricky Kidd who has enjoyed a long term involvement with the Reigate based club.
