Odd one on the penalty taker. Thought Forbes was supposed to be on them still. I actually disagree re. the penalty being a cert for aveley. First push on Darren and then ball smashed at him from about an inch away. Easy to say he had his arm raised but from a players perspective it is natural when blocking in the kind of position he was in. There was no deliberate attempt to use his hand/arm. Thought we played pretty well and if we scored 2or 3 1st half we may have got another load.

Thought Forbes was superb with his hold up play, at least for the first hour or so!

Why is who took the penalty an issue? It was scored wasn't it? Some people just want to moan and whinge for the sheer sake of it.

As i was waiting for my train at West Sutton iwas in conversation with another United fan. Another guy joined the conversation and thought Avely were poor and Sutton would be upset they had not won by more goals as they were different class in most positions. An honest Aveley fan i thought but no!His accent was not that of an Aveley resident.I asked him what station he was going to."Back home to DONCASTER"he replied. Typical northener he thought watching football down south was expensive."10quid ican watch Rovers for 12 and have been in to Blackburn for 15"he said. This is not a wind up.It actually happened as he goes around the country each weekend to watch a game. He picked Sutton v Aveley because awoman he knows in Doncaster used to live inAveley!

Firstly, to call Aveley 'poor' really is out of order. They were a FAR better side than Croydon and played some decent stuff when they had the ball. Ok, so they didn't create loads of chances, but could easily have been 2-0 up at the break. If they keep plugging away like that, they'll stay up.
We started well, created pressure but without creating a great deal ourselves. Then the pen came and we had a real task on our hands. Still, we got a break with our own spot kick & then thanks to Ebbs super delivery from set pieces, Sam headed the winner.
Results went our way a bit today, so we're still rolling. I think the game against Lowestoft is going to be a biggun.
As for the pen, we spoke to Dundo afterwards. Apparently Forbesy told him beforehand if we got one today, he could take it. So he did. Dundo also said that he'll be handing duties back to Andy after today!

I spoke to Dos as usual afterwards - I may not get a chance to write up the full interview until tomorrow evening but his comments suggested that he was as surprised as anyone when Dundo took the penalty.

On a side note it was nice to see that AJ came through 90 minutes with the reserves! Hope to see him back in the first time in no time at all!

Their penalty was as cast iron as they come. Darren was a few yards away and raised his arms to block the cross ! Our pen was a joke, but i'm not complaining ! Well done lads for grinding out another important win.

Their penalty was as cast iron as they come. Agreed. But we had a penalty claim turned down when the ball hit the forearm of a defender. The ref seemed to indicate chest. Now if the ref had said no because he thought it was more accidental than intentional, I may have agreed with him. To suggest it didn't hit the arm at all was poor.

garethl (again), sorry mate but if you raise your arms and the ball hits them it should be a free-kick. If the ball is smashed from close range and the arms are down then there is room to interpret that as accidental.
