Fairly sure Keegan did make a playing appearance at GGL in some testimonial or other. Seem to remember him either going in goal, or substituting himself for a ball boy (who subsequently scored from the customary iffy penalty those sort of occasions have), or even both.
Could be wrong though!

Ah iffy testimonial penalties. I love 'em! Anyone remeber Nigel Golley's one where the 'keeper came out to shake his hand and as he wandered back to his goal, Golley tucked the ball into the empty net. Superb!

Garland admits a switch to United could upset one or two people at neighbours Carshalton AthleticIt could upset a few people over here as well!!

The Iffy testimonial was the Tony Rains/Mickey Stephens one against Bob 'The Cat' Bevan's all star XI.
Ok, yes it was iffy. I remember being an enthusiastic 14 year old, seeing an injured Lenny Dennis going round with a bucket and me asking him 'how his groin strain was'
What a tit I was!

I only remember the Gwynne Berry testimonial where he failed to score despite being given an iffy penalty

Experience at Blue South level - yes, getting a team relegated. Yeah thats just what we need!
No offence to him, but Dave Garland is NOT the right person for the job. End of story. He's only going for it to get one over Hayden Bird, regardless. Crap record, and hope the board do no even think about entertaining the thought of it!

I'd say Garland has about as much chance as getting the job at Manchester United as he has with us.
I can't see our board being particularly impressed with his CV TBH......

Back to the Keegan bit, try Tony Rains/Mickey Stephens testimonial. There's been a photograph hanging up in the 'Players Bar' for years with the whole ensemble, Mullery, Bassett, Peacock, Lawrence et al!

I must sound like a broken record but we need a striker fullstop without one we won't score goals and we will get relegated even if Arsene Wenger took the job. Rose could manage the team if we had a goal scorer as simple as that!!! How do you know Rose couldn't manage anyway? Do you know for a fact that she hasn't got a coaching badge and loads of covert experience?

I remember both of those game, and the incident with the ball boy! I think another regular poster on here knows that story and has all the details.

Have a look at that Sperz side. You'd never get a prem club bring as full strength a side to a testimonial these days. Let alone to a NL club.
And certainly not with only 4subs!

Would we get a crowd of over 5000 now, for a friendly?
