Their chairman has put something on twitter about 'common sense' prevailing. Surely if they've played an ineligible player, especially if he scored, rules are rules and common sense is to kick them out!

Maybe that's what he means

I remember a few seasons back at AFC Wimbledon, Jermaine Darlington was ineligible - kicked out of 2 cup competitions and docked points. And that was on the basis that the player didn't actually tell them something about their international clearance. They did everything right and it still happened. And what about the whole Thurrock business a couple of years ago which meant they were relegated? Same sort of thing - they cocked up the paperwork.
The chairman has admitted they've cocked up on the paperwork.
There SHOULD be only one recourse available to the FA. It's almost certain Concord will get fined. Beyond that...who knows.

It's not and never had been the players responsibility.
If a fan can Google the rules and know what should have been done then a club official can.
Obviously you still have scope for genuine human error (I know more about the AFCW issue than is appropriate to discuss in public) but the rules on player clearance are surprisingly easy to access (considering it's the F.A. website) and interpret if you happen to be unsure.
It's a shame this won't be decided on the football pitch whatever happens.

Apparently the game is to be relayed. Can we organize a boycott or something? Can't be arsed to go back there

UPDATE - appears to be at our place at least. Gives us unnecessary fixture congestion, seems to be way too lenient. Feel for Lowestoft as well who will get a backlog as well. Why should be be punished for Concord's mistakes? Absolute joke

At the moment, the F.A. website is showing the fixtures as Concord v Sutton (i.e. away) on Wednesday 16th December, with the winners at home to Lowestoft on Tuesday 5th January (presumably that would be Monday 4th if it's us).

Concord's twitter page is indicating that it will indeed be replayed at GGL. Apparently, the F.A. are quoting F.A. Trophy Rule 16 (C)!!
Bah, humbug!

Rule 16 (c) "However, where the club satisfies the National Game Board that the club (or any of its officers) did not know and could not reasonably have known, even had it made every reasonable enquiry (with the exercise of the utmost caution), that the player was ineligible, the club shall not be removed from the Competition but may still be subject to any other penalty. (e.g. fine, ordered to replay the match)."
Interesting, seeing as they admitted that their Secretary knew.

I honestly think a replay is the worst possible outcome because it's another game for us and the festive period is busy enough. It may sound ludicrous but I have to say I think I would prefer if they had just been fined and allowed into the next round.

Echo News report CONCORD Rangers have not been expelled from the FA Trophy, with their match against Sutton United to be replayed next week. The FA had charged the Beach Boys for fielding an ineligible player after they played Jordan Cox in the 3-1 victory over Sutton on Saturday, November 28. Concord chairman Antony Smith told the Echo he did not know the on-loan Braintree striker needed permission from the governing body in order to play. When responding to the charge, Smith explained that he was not aware of the rule in the absence of club secretary Chris Crerie, and the FA has decided the third qualifying round tie will be replayed to a finish at Sutton, in accordance with FA Trophy Rule 16(C). The FA also ordered the gate receipts from the original match be retained by Sutton, while Concord will be responsible for their own travel costs when they visit Surrey on Wednesday, December 16. No further action will be taken against Concord, after the committee ruled the decision to replay the match under condition was deemed to be sufficient and the fairest outcome given the circumstances. The winners of the tie will host National League North side Lowestoft Town in the first round. m.echo-news.co.uk/sport/14138011.Concord_Rangers_survive_another_day_in_the_FA_Trophy/?ref=twtrec

So we're in the hat for the 2nd round without even winning a game yet!

Well often you can say that after a draw, so I prefer "we lost the first game and we're still in the hat for the 2nd round"
