Personally, I think it's great they've accepted the offer. OK the tournament may affect league form and it creates a bit of a logistical minefield but it also illustrates the incredible strides this club have made in the past few years. It also adds another string to Sutton's tournament bow

Without wishing to side with those against the idea of competing in it (like most of us, I’m quite excited by the prospect), but I see that the 3rd round is scheduled for the weekend of October 13th/14th, which is almost certainly when ourselves and Boreham Wood will be due to enter the F.A. Cup at the 4th qualifying round stage. Way to think things through, SPFL !

Am i the only one thinking this is crazy ? With 46 League games to play,FA Cup & Trophy to compete in how will our part time squad cope ? Totally agree, if you are serious about promotion you don't play tournaments like this, you focus on the main task and give yourself the very best chance of succeeding. Why do you think the SPL sides don't play their 1st teams?

(apologies everyone, for the off-topic digression!)

The dates are subject to confirmation, but it makes sense to start the F.A. Cup a week later, after the first batch of league games. Anyway, carry on everybody!

I'm sure that the club would have thought about entering this competition long and hard. If they thought that it would be detrimental to next season the decision makers would have declined the invite. Let's face it, Sutton are one of, if not best well run non-league clubs in the country. And much of that has to go down to Paul Doswell. I have total trust in the club to make these sort of descions. Plus, it might be fun! Edit: Can someone please change the thread title to Irn Bru!

Why do you think the SPL sides don't play their 1st teams? Is promotion the be-all and end-all? Was last season a failure because we didn’t get promoted? I certainly don’t think so. There are other challenges and I’m glad the club has accepted this one.

Exactly. Perhaps it would make sense to be more serious about promotion once artificial pitches are accepted in the EFL...

Edit: Can someone please change the thread title to Irn Bru! I made the same point earlier. And maybe now we could invite say Dundee for a friendly. Would be helpful.
