Totally agree, if you are serious about promotion you don't play tournaments like this, you focus on the main task and give yourself the very best chance of succeeding. Why do you think the SPL sides don't play their 1st teams? Is promotion the be-all and end-all? Was last season a failure because we didn’t get promoted? I certainly don’t think so. There are other challenges and I’m glad the club has accepted this one. I don't think its really fair to say that, it all depends on your ambitions. Its very tight at the top, you need every ounce you can muster for what is a very long National League campaign. We don't have a large squad, and we do rely on some key players. No I would not have swapped the FA Cup run for all the tea in China, but those extra matches most definitely effected our league position. We could face a long trip to Scotland just a few days before we play a vital away league match up in Barrow etc. I personally think we can get promoted if all the clubs energy goes into it, that is simply my point

And if I felt promotion was the most important thing, I would agree with you and I certainly respect your opinion. However, I am happy being a top level non-league club, although I agree we constantly have to have promotion as an obejective in order to not slide back, but not to the exclusion of everything else. Particularly when promotion means the loss of our pitch.

Quite frankly we’ve had a great season but it could easily be the other end we have to worry about (not saying that will happen but it could). I just don’t think extra games on a Saturday are a very good idea. This isn’t the FA Cup with the chance to play higher level sides and some lucrative rewards.
That said it’s done now so obviously I hope all goes well!

Interesting comment on the Inverness forum.
"I think the likes of Sutton United and Boreham Wood are too strong even for our Championship sides and have every chance of winning it IF they really really really want to".
Not doing us down but is Scottish football really that bad?

"I think the likes of Sutton United and Boreham Wood are too strong even for our Championship sides and have every chance of winning it IF they really really really want to". Not doing us down but is Scottish football really that bad? England has a population of over 53 million, Scotland a population of little more than 5 million. With smaller countries, the fall off in quality outside of the top division is therefore far sharper, due to the smaller pool of talented players, travelling fans, financial resources etc. You simply can't compare the 2nd tier of Scottish football with the 2nd tier of English football, the 3rd tier etc. There is no correlation between the two. Therefore, it's probably no stretch of the imagination that a top quality non-league English side could be competitive against a lower division Scottish league club, but there's only one way to find out...

There have been a few players moving from Conference to top flight Scottish league sides, including Deacon of course, in recent times.

Not doing us down but is Scottish football really that bad? Yes it's pretty poor tbh.. As I mentioned previously we have a realistic chance of going far or all the way imho.

Still got good teams like Aberdeen and Hibernian but most other Scottish sides in the SPL are probably at the lower Championship side of quality, the highland and lowland leagues are pretty much at the level of the Step 7/8.

That's a rather bold statement. Aberdeen has at least 14 players in their squad with international experience.

We can find out how good Aberdeen are as they've drawn Burnley in the Europa league 1st qualification extra preliminary round
