Thoroughly enjoyed my third visit to Plainmoor and saw my third win there! Although I hated the added 6 minutes (felt more like 10!) we didn’t look like conceding and at long last we secured a well deserved 3 points. Everyone on the pitch plus the supporters put in 110% and were well rewarded. Good to see Matt Gray mingle with the fans in the stand before the match. Onwards and upwards.

Looking forward to Saturday. Last away trip didn’t make it for reasons out of our control (Fylde). Should be a good watch - Louis back plus 2 weeks break hopefully will have done the lads some good. Torquay 1 SU 2 What a prediction. Never in doubt 😉

I admit that I have been a critic of MG recently but let’s hope that this is the springboard to a comfortable mid table position . Congratulations to MG and all the lads on a superb result.

Great result especially given the fact we lost the lead. A real test of character but we came through.
Matt has to take credit for finally accepting his original viewpoint on loans wasn't correct for a club such as ourselves. Louis is pure class, a major loss to us IMHO but he deserved his move.
The test now is to get a run of form and get a win at home. It's been tough at home for a while but the boys should be feeling good after this week.

Just got back. What a difference having a goalkeeper who can take crosses. Takes a lot of pressure off the defence and although most of them hadn't played together it was enough to keep out high flying Torquay most of the match which we dominated. Two good goals for us and a well deserved 3 points. Still under pressure to get out of the relegation slots but keep playing that way with that intensity and we surely will.

Couple of points jump out to me - interested to hear what we all think.....
Ben Wyatt (2nd game) and was top class - keeps his position?
Louis stays as a centre half or gets moved to right full back - so JC is back in with BG - or do you keep Barden as the right full back and it’s Louis with one of JC or BG.....

Would expect Louis to move to right back as and when JC is back. And that’s without watching Torquay! A keeper with a bit of height plus those 3 in defence should hopefully give us a boost in both boxes.

Well done team and supporters who went.
I saw the team but how exactly did they line up?

Top result and I think the best team performance I've seen from us all season. We neutered a potentially strong Torquay side and for someone not knowing the respective positions and form wouldn't have been able to tell who was who.
For me the defence looked like a changed beast - all four of them were oozing confidence and aside from Louis who was brilliant, Barden was solid, Wyatt was full of energy and Goodliffe had the best game I've seen for Sutton. Add to that a keeper who was totally confident in what he needed to do. We also got out of the silly habit of giving away freekicks in dangerous positions, and on the two occasions we did, we dealt with them.
The 5 in midfield also showed their class, and regardless of what one poster said previously, having Kenny, Craig and Harry together in the middle of the park really controlled the game.
If we set that performance as the standard for the season, I've got no doubts we will be a National League side next season.

It was undoubtedly a good performance and a deserved three points, but I couldn't share in the elation at the final whistle. Everybody at the club should be aware that there's still an awful lot of work to do to dig ourselves out of the hole we slipped into during a torrid October when there were too many self-inflicted wounds. Our next four games are all against top-half sides, and we probably need a minimum of six points from those to climb away from trouble.

It was a really good performance however I felt we played better at Barrow and created more chances. That shouldn't take anything away from the performance on Saturday though as it really was a good performance and, but for their keeper, we could have had more. We need to improve our home form though as that will be crucial to us moving up the table. If you can't win a decent proportion of your home games then we have little chance of surviving I'm afraid.

There's the rub. We may of created more chances, but we didn't do anything with them. This time we did. And that's what we need to do to stay up. It wasn't only our first league win since Chesterfield, I think I'm right in saying that it was the first time we went into the lead in any game since then too. The big difference for me between Barrow and Torquay was we may have played better but we got more and more frustrated. Saturday's team looked totally different and oozed confidence, which really came from the defence.

We get sent a lot of meaningless match stats after games. One that I picked out that might be of interest was that on Saturday we had 53% of possession.

But Torquay fans will argue that half their team were out whereas against Barrow I think they were missing only 1 player. Our performance at Barrow was very encouraging and then the challenge was whether we could replicate it. We did and now the challenge is to do that at home. I believe we can. Hopefully Bromley's game tomorrow night will go to extra time!

And in that first sentence why I have curtailed my input on here. If you can't be elated after a first win in weeks I think you should take up watching something else or watching someone else. Jesus.
