Purely common sense ( or wishful thinking ) but I would expect the Euros in the summer to be cancelled and this season to be completed through the summer instead , both here and throughout Europe . The start of next season would then be put back a month or two to give clubs and players time to have a rest and sort out new contracts etc . The consequences of not allowing clubs to not complete this season would surely lead to pure chaos . Nobody would accept relegation unless it was mathematically impossible to stay up ( and that is currently not the case I believe anywhere ) and can you imagine Liverpool accepting that they have not won the league ! Anyway just my thoughts . As an aside my wife and I have a holiday booked for America for May but do not intend to cancel at this stage but will review circumstances at the end of this month and again at the end of April . Things can and will change so there is still plenty of time for decisions to be made . Fingers crossed for you GGL but in reality I think it's unlikely that your plans won't be disrupted. I'm in the same position in May - booked tickets for the European Rugby Final in Marseille last year. Already shelled out £300, my slice of the villa we've hired out plus £100 for the ticket. Now in a no win position. I can go ahead and book the Eurostar but in the knowledge that there's a good chance it'll be wasted money, or abandon my plans and write off the £400 I've already spent. Trying to imagine the rage on Merseyside if Liverpool are denied the title has made me chuckle, though. That'll give them something new to whinge about for the next 30 years!

I think our holiday will not proceed but I am just unwilling to pull the plug just yet . Anyway , if the Americans keep extending their travel ban then that would make the decision for us
With regards to your dilemma , personally I would not book anything else at the moment . That’s what you get for watching egg chasing !!
As for Liverpool , can you imagine the shell suit rage up their or what . I wonder how many Evertonians and Manchurians are wishing for that result !

Imagine that eh? A team you support and have waited for years for success to be told they're being denied it. Imagine what a laugh it must be for Leeds supporters who have had a rough time in the last 10 years with manager after manager being told they wont get promoted because the league won't finish. Or Coventry. Imagine being Max Biamou being denied of a league winners medal. Or being a Barrow supporter with your team about to be back in the league after 48 years out of it to be told their great season has been for nothing.
Oh yes I can well believe that all of that is side splittingly funny.

Ha! Yeah a couple of friends have already made that point about egg chasing. Will always come a distant second to the football for me but still love it. I think you're right, no point in throwing more money down the drain.

When you get to the Slovakian regional division 7 (south western region), it might be time to have a nightcap and go to bed though.

Andy K was simply illustrating that other teams, many other teams, will be in a similar, unfortunate, boat. No great stretch of comprehension with that, is there? Not so much of a list really, more an extension of sympathy. It can be done.

There's a poster on here called Scousebusters, I'm fairly confident that he would have a broadly similar view. As would countless thousands outside of the bubble of this forum. Think of it as a light hearted attempt to divert from the predictions of a zombie apocolypse. As the Monty Python song goes.......Always look on the bright side of life

I know you're only trying to lighten the mood but some people just don't find others suffering amusing, to be honest. Even if it is "only" football. I'm sure you'd be absolutely raging if it were us and other teams' fans were laughing about it.

Isn't that the nature of being a football fan, the culture across the globe, though? For example, I think that if Eastleigh and Boreham Wood, two clubs who, it's fair to say, aren't particularly popular among those of us with an amber and chocolate persuasion, got relegated next season, there would be no tears shed and that we'd quite enjoy it?
I mean, if you take that to the other end of the spectrum, what about, for example, Celtic doing 10 in a row or Rangers preventing them? You don't think it would be perfectly natural that there would be rather a lot of gloating going on?

Or an example closer to home for me, back in 86/87, the first year of the FL play offs, Gillingham relegated Sunderland at Roker and sent them down to the third tier for the first time in their history. There were so many Newcastle fans there to support us that day specifically to enjoy the schadenfreude associated with their biggest rivals enduring that. In fact, for many years afterwards if we played Darlington or Hartlepool, you'd get a few Geordies turn up to support us purely because of the fact that we'd relegated Sunderland. I think that's brilliant, I don't think that's anything to be discouraged at all.

You don't see a difference between the ups and downs of a normal football season and the impact of a pandemic?

In respect of not wanting anyone to come to any harm, stay healthy etc then yes of course I do. It's not as if I'm advocating wishing those sort of implications on any rival team, nor do I think I remotely implied that.

This is all getting a bit silly now. Can we stick to facts and possible outcomes rather than this pointless banter.

Yeah fair enough Del. I can provide one factual update (I think, not sure if every NHS health authority follows exactly the same policy but I'd imagine they do) - all non-essential surgery has been cancelled. I had the day off tomorrow to take my dad into hospital for his hernia op but he just phoned me to say it's off. Probably the same in the Sutton area and across the country.
