As tomorrow is Friday 13th, I encourage all of you to shout "Jason" at anyone wearing one of those dopey masks, regardless of their gender. They can get away with it for one day as a tribute to Jason Voorhees but just like April Fools, for no longer than that*
*Unless they can dye their mask yellow and paint an "A" over it, and claim to be leading a Summer of Love rave revival!

Please play nicely as it a very serious problem for people with underlying health problems and old buggers like me ! in Italy it is not just those that have been affected - there are younger, fitter people in intensive care. the question is will the season finish ? I doubt it somehow - maybe this Saturday will go ahead, who knows after that.

I reckon we’ll fit in Hartlepool and Fylde before the shutters come down. 😢

The truth is we just don't know. It's almost like trying to predict if a game is going to be called off because of the weather days in advance. There's a lot of misinformation out there about the spread of the virus, the virus itself and how it could affect big events. Some have been behind closed doors or postponed in various countries but that's up to the powers that be to decide. At the moment there are some countries in a better position than the UK that are taking more extreme measures whilst others more affected taking less measures.
Any prediction at this stage I believe is premature.

I know it's obviously the other end of the scale to Nat Prem football, but look at PSG v Dortmund, last night. Thousands of fans gathered outside the PdeP to collectively watch the games on their phones. The ruling about not shaking hands seems fairly pointless, too. You can't shake hands with an opponent, but you can jostle together, nose to nose for a corner kick. It's all about being seen to be doing something, which I can understand from the perspective of organisations that are worried about compensation claims etc but will ultimately serve no purpose.

Any prediction at this stage I believe is premature. Any prediction is certainly, by definition, premature, but with lots of mainland Europe and the Irish Republic in lockdown, I will be gobsmacked if UK does not follow suit.

The Irish Republic is not in lockdown. Schools and colleges have closed, gatherings above 500 outdoors and 100 indoors have been advised that they "should" (not must) cancel but ports and airports remain open for business. As, of course, do shopping centres and you get a hell of a lot more than 100 people in a mall at any given time. All this after the death of one elderly woman with underlying health conditions.
To be honest I would also be surprised if the UK doesn't follow at some point soon, but I hope we don't adopt the trend and instead maintain some common sense.

Any prediction is certainly, by definition, premature, but with lots of mainland Europe and the Irish Republic in lockdown, I will be gobsmacked if UK does not follow suit. But it's not though? There's a big difference between countries in lockdown (which is basically cutting themselves off from the rest of the world) and a country decided to close schools for a period of time. At the time of writing, I believe it's only Italy and Slovakia (who announced it earlier) who have implemented a lockdown within Europe. Others such as Ireland, Denmark and a few others have shut schools. Even in the UK there have been some localised school shutdown, but countries like Germany, Spain, Netherlands, Sweden (all of whom have more positive cases than the UK) are at worst having localised school closures. We can't assume that the UK is going to go into any sort of lockdown without either being an expert in the field employing complex algorithms to model the virus spread or being within the government who are using that data and other political decisions to make that call. The footballing governing bodies will make decisions based on that information which i'm sure is being supplied to them, being well aware of the economic implications they could have. I'm glad I'm not the one having to make that call because it's going to be a very tough one whichever way it goes.

We are 4 weeks behind Italy apparently. Peak is 10-14 weeks away so things will get a lot worse. At the moment football will continue at our level although that could change fairly quickly.

What annoys me most about this is it's all to appease the lowest common denominator. The panic buyers who've already emptied the shelves of handwash and toilet rolls. The same people who buy up all the milk and bread if 1mm of snow falls. If only we could manufacture a pandemic that targets the stupid. Get rid of the oxygen thieves and make more space for the rest of us.

As Del said at the top, please play nicely.

After this afternoon's announcements from Downing Street it looks as if our next two games at least will get played. As both are home fixtures, that must be a considerable relief to the club (and our treasurer in particular). I think though that we should expect attendances to be down a bit, especially against Fylde (who don't bring many fans at the best of times).
