Sincere congratulations to all on the decision making panel for the National League for not pandering to mass media hysteria like a pathetic shower of snowflakes

I read that a few mins ago Andy, as I'm due to watch South Shields tomorrow. Good on them. True never say die spirit is still alive and kicking in some quarters. This country will survive by the spirit of those willing to stand up for it, keep calm and carry on, not those whimpering in their bedrooms. No surrender π π

They've weighed up the economic impact v the health impact and think the former has priority at the moment. Theres nothing keep calm and carry on about it whatsoever and even less about standing up for the country. Whatever your personal take on this there are people out there who are quietly genuinely worried (which could well include regular visitors to this forum). I expect they are not "snowflakes" or "whimpering in their bedrooms". Both leagues have made decisions which they know not everyone will agree with but generalizing and possibly demonising those who don't agree with that isn't a good look.

Wholeheartedly agree and saved me penning something along very similar lines. Medwaysider you are displaying a total lack of compassion and to say that a people are lacking perspective is irony of the highest order. Whilst having an opinion is all well and good I would advocate at least trying to understand general concern and the fact that this is an extremely serious issue. I do hope if you exhibit symptoms you stick to the bedroom and not risk infecting more vulnerable people.

Andy, I did read it and I completely applaud the decision to prioritise the risk of any economic impact to the league, as I do the country in general. We're talking ourselves into a much more serious situation than is justified at this moment in time. The economy must continue to function at as full a capacity as possible, jobs and livelihoods depend on it. The world will continue to turn no matter how many people die, as has been the case throughout history.
Gareth, spell the irony out to me. You mean because I don't share your view of a doomsday scenario? Or do you believe (as I don't) that the preservation of all life, everywhere, no matter what the consequences is more important than the economic wellbeing of the UK? I've already said that my dad is in the "at risk" group. So obviously I'm worried about him but I'm a pragmatist and so is he.
I work for a government agency on the enforcement side of the operation and I will remain in position unless I am instructed to stay away. If that happens, (and my dad lives with me), there is no way in the world that I'll be barricading myself in the house for a week. You know why? Because it'll make f**k all difference. I bet you'd have been one of those people in the 70s or 80s who believed that ducking under the table might help in the event of a nuclear holocaust? Well dream on and swallow all you've been fed if you like, but I choose not to.

I have to say that medwaysider's post is simply ridiculous.
This is a very serious issue, its going to get a lot worse before it gets better and yes real people are going to die. The Chinese doctor who discovered the virus was 34 and had no underlying health issues. No one knows how each of our bodies will react to a virus it has never seen before or if it is continuing to mutate. This is probably the most serious and dangerous thing facing us since before most of us were born.
I find the NL boards decision to play matches and cash in as almost a criminal but certainly an act of negligence that could rebound quite hard on them. I understand that many teams do not want to play tomorrow but are being forced to do so. Harrigate / Stockport / Ebbsfleet have all stated they prefer not to play.

Is there anyone not going to the game due to the corona virus?

You're surely having a laugh? And you call my post ridiculous? They're playing on and potential spectators have a choice as to whether they attend? That's called democracy, which isn't criminal. Would you prefer we lived in some sort of totalitarian state? And who is a real person? Did I ever suggest that people aren't going to die? I'm directly related to one who wouldn't stand much of a chance so I think I'm qualified to speak. If we're talking ridiculous, that's when you start differentiating between real and presumably in your head, unreal people. I think you need to toddle off and have a think about what you've just said because it makes almost no sense at all.

I am not going to get into the should they play or not debate because luckily it is not my call . However , As the league has decided to carry on could they not give some clubs the opportunity to cash in on tv revenue by attempting to have two or three matches screened live over the weekend. This might of course mean a couple of matches delaying kick off until Sunday afternoon but I for one would much rather see some football rather than none at all . I suspect there must be logistical problems , television rights etc to consider but would it not be great to see the mighty SUFC verses Hartlepool shown on sky as the live Monday night football match ! I expect that there are a multitude of reasons why this cannot happen but it would provide much needed revenues and promote the standard of the league if it could . Just my thoughts !

You really are talking out of your backside Its certainly not in my head, having nearly died on a ventilator from double pneumonia - So I suggest you toddle off!!!

I was thinking along the same lines. As no games are being played other than the National League then why not show some of them live if possible? Doubt if it came to fruition they would be on Sky though as BT have the rights. Obviously wouldn't happen this weekend because of such a short notice.

Is there anyone not going to the game due to the corona virus? I certainly won't let it stop me going to the game. As I understand it (although I may be wrong or badly informed) I'm more likely to catch or transfer the virus at my work or on the tube or socialising in the pub than I am in a medium sized crowd in the open air. And, certainly for now, I will continue to go to work on the tube and to socialise. Btw, this thread is still less depressing than the Aldershot's fans' forum. Far too much reasoning going on.

Taking it one step further , how about Match of the day featuring just National League games ! Again tv rights etc would no doubt prohibit this but what a thought !

As I understand it a lot of people have or had it but never known to have and it's now left their body and immune system.
Like was posted above, I'm not sure how true that actually is.
