Am I right in my thinking that we only got elite status at the end of last season due to some teams arguing that the playoffs should take place in the north and south leagues? If that is so it would be difficult to go back the the FA and have the elite status rescinded so quickly. Hope I am wrong

Play-offs held behind closed doors are apparently considered by the DCMS to be hallmarks of 'elite' status. Nonsense of course, but that's the narrow thinking that's boxed us in.

Hope I am wrong Correct - you can thank Mr Doswell in part for that - he insisted that his Havant had to compete in the play-offs! National Prem, North and South really need to be downgraded from this ‘elite’ tag.

What happens if a National league team is unable to fulfill their fixtures? Don’t they have to drop down the leagues?
Maybe let that happen then - would actually allow us to bring fans back. That’s how stupid the current situation is.

These are uncertain times for the club and the players. Thankfully we are run by volunteers unlike some clubs but we are still committed to pay those on contract. Those players not on contract (or even those that are) may look for alternative work if their footballing future is uncertain. The answer may be to go back to evening training to allow players to supplement their income in this time of uncertainty. I await the chancellors statement tomorrow regarding financial support but without crowds the National League has stated there will be no league fixtures.

We are a well run club and as Dos said With the best board. So we should be ok I think and also let’s wait and see what the chancellor says tomorrow. Keep the faith!

So as we stand there is 300 in GGL watching SCR, and we have to now convince the government that we are not elite, after spending much of the last 6 months convincing them we were? Someone does seem to have taken this world and turned it on its head? I am going to take a wild guess at the result of no crowds allowed for National league but 30% capacity allowed for step 3 and below, I think you know what's coming SCR suddenly get vastly improved crowds - I know its 300 tonight but does that go up to 30% of GGL capacity next month?

I can fully appreciate Notts County's position. Clubs have been preparing for the proposed 3 October start for many weeks now. Any further delay at this very late stage jeopardises the whole prospect of being able to squeeze in a full season of football at all. I certainly wouldn't want any team in our division to suffer any more than they have done already. Plus I'm relishing the prospect of seeing us in action against Deadpool FC!

Notts County have a large fanbase for this level of football and would expect to generate a fair amount of income from live streaming. The same would be true of (for example) Wrexham and Stockport County. It could be a different story for clubs such as Boreham Wood, Solihull Moors and AFC Fylde which have small fanbases relative to their wage bills. Those clubs do have wealthy owners but it remains to be seen whether they'd be willing to put their hands deeper into their pockets.

Its also possible certain clubs won't have a Covid 19 clause in their players contracts.

I must admit i agree with the Chairman of Nott County. Streaming matches could produce a good deal of revenue for us if we get the pricing right and some advertising. There are a fair few clubs in our League with big fan bases and i would imagine there would be a lot more away fans streaming our games than we would ever see coming through our gates.
The alternative is to wait for government approval which could be as long as 6 months away by which time many clubs may not be viable !
