Right folks, it's that time of year again. With the college game out of the way, the last ball has been kicked on the hallowed turf until Dossie's Giants set foot on the pitch in July with a new-found winning mentality that is going to sweep through this part of the Borough starting from NOW!!
Before then, there's absolutely loads of work to do. GGL is looking as tired as it has done for a long long time. We need to make sure that next season's squad is playing in as comfortable surroundings as possible. I've had a walk round the ground with Graham Baker and we've drawn up the following list of things to be done that will benefit both supporters and players for our Championship season in 2008/09:
1. Clean all the adverting boards and remove old ones
2. Repair and paint the old Supporters' Club Shop by the stand
3. Paint over all graffiti inside and outside the ground
5. All concrete posts around pitch to be painted white
6. Repair hole in Collingwood terrace roof
7. Replace timbers and repaint dug outs
8. Spruce up toilets at Collingwood Rec end
9. Sinks to be installed in the toilets at the end of the stand
10. Paint and clean turnstiles at GGL and Collingwood ends
11. Build path to disabled covered unit
12. White wash walls around the ground
13. Fill in hole on track where the players go on to the pitch[and poss. cover with astro turf]
14.All seats in the stand to be cleaned
15. Re-paint yellow lines on the edge of the steps in the stand
16. Weeding - lots of weeding
That's just the jobs that we identified. There are plenty more!!
The only reason that this club still exists is through the efforts of volunteers throughout the season. We ALL need to pitch in here if we're going to get the ground up to a standard that we can be proud of. So if you can spare an hour or more throughout the summer, please pop down!!
We're planning to have a regular purge at doing these jobs every Saturday afternoon going forward, and possibly one evening a week as well for those that can do it. We'll meet about 1ish on Saturday, and probably be down at the ground until 5ish. If you can pop down for an hour or so, then PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do so - if you've got the afternoon spare, then even better!!
By my reckoning, we've probably only got 7 Saturdays free now until the first pre-season so there's shedloads to do in that time!
Also, if you've got any tools that you think would be useful for these jobs then either email me or just bring 'em along!
