I agree with Billy We are on a great run and long may it continue but there are so many things that can happen in the next 6 weeks or so. There are things we can control and things we can’t. Why put any more pressure on the team by doing these constant predictions?? May I refer you to the title of this thread! Yes, lots can happen over the remaining games, that's why there is discussion over the various permutations. As I mentioned elsewhere, it's a chance for a fan or two to release a bit of nervous energy. It's pretty harmless stuff and easily ignored if it's not your cup of tea, although I have to say that the idea that anything written here puts any pressure on the team is a touch fanciful. We all want the same thing, some of us just express it in different ways And in response to Billy, the answers are a) Torquay and f) 85.

Nobody's doing it AT the team. It's just conversation. The players shouldn't read it if something so innocuous is going to upset the balance - not that I believe for one moment that it would (quite the reverse if anything).
And nobody else has to read this thread either. Billy seems to have 90 eggs to use up: why don't the two of you go and make some cakes for me and Sol?

The impression I have is that Matt and the players don't feel under any great pressure. Nobody expected us to be in this position. The pressure is actually on teams like Notts County, Hartlepool, Wrexham and Torquay, whose fans expect an early return to the Football League.
If we end up staying down it would hardly be a disaster, and may actually be a relief to some on our management committee! Whatever the outcome at the end of the season, everybody associated with the club can take pride in what's been achieved so far. We've enjoyed the ride, and anticipating what may still happen is part of that enjoyment. I doubt that many Torquay or Hartlepool fans will treat their own results projections as 'fun'.

Why put any more pressure on the team by doing these constant predictions?? If you honestly think a forum thread entitled "just for fun" and actually really doesn't make any predictions at all is putting pressure on the football team, then you've just undermined the strength of character that the management and team have in being where they are today. We're discussing permutations. If that can't happen on a football forum, shall we just shut down Amber Planet because "it puts pressure on the team"?

I'm sure many fans of the teams around us would LOVE to have just this to squabble about!

And if anyone wants an idea of what putting pressure on the management looks like, just take a peek at the Stockport and Wrexham forums in the wake of yesterday's results.

Ah, Mr. anything-I-don't-like-is-inherently-stupid-and-shouldn't-be-done, rides again.
Pops back, nice as pie for a (very) little while. Then business as usual.
Just. Sad.

Remember, when the fun stops, stop. But it hasn't so I won't. As ever, all levelled up with 1 extra point per game in hand - So eight games to go.
Sutton United 34 51 26 66 Hartlepool 34 45 29 63 Torquay Utd 34 51 31 60 Stockport C 34 46 26 57 Chesterfield 34 43 29 55 Notts County 34 37 25 54 FC Halifax 34 46 35 50 Wrexham FC 34 40 32 50 Bromley FC 34 46 42 48 Eastleigh FC 34 35 31 47

And the latest maximum points update after this weekends games - the figure in brackets indicate the number of wins Sutton need to make that side mathematically unable to finish with more points than us, regardless of their results
Hartlepool - 85 (7) Sutton - 96 Torquay - 90 (9) Stockport - 85 (7) Notts County - 88 (8) Chesterfield - 87 (8) Halifax - 83 (7) Wrexham - 77 (5) Eastleigh - 77 (5) Bromley - 76 (4) Boreham wood - 74 (4) Aldershot - 74 (4) Altrincham - 65 (1) Maidenhead - 79 (5)
Altrincham don't play tomorrow, so a draw or a win on Saturday at their place will mean they mathematically can't be ahead of us on points at the end of the season.
Just for additional info, Barnet, Kings Lynn, Weymouth and Wealdstone already cannot get more than our current 64 point total. One more win for us and Dagenham will join that list as well as Altrincham.

The playoff picture is interesting with Wrexham's dismal recent run meaning that a loss to Halifax tomorrow could be terminal. Eastleigh, Bromley and Boreham Wood are all on the very edge of being out of contention - BHW probably stuffed if they don't beat Chesterfield.

Well, we didn't deny Torquay but (barring 100% winning records) only they and us can reach 85 points. To reach 80 points, Stockport still need 22 points from 9 games. Their game against Torquay on 15th May is a biggie but, of course, there is a lot to happen before then. The rest of April is huge for us. If we can recover goalscoring form (let's remember, we've only conceded 1 in 3, partly thanks to Dean's gonads) and get min 6 points from Altrincham/Eastleigh/Barnet, then the show is very much back on.

Update after 13th April games:
Hartlepool - 85 Sutton - 93 Torquay - 90 Stockport - 85 Chesterfield - 85 Notts County - 85 Wrexham - 77 Halifax - 80 Bromley - 76 Eastleigh - 74 BW - 72 Aldershot - 74 Solihull 75 Altrincham - 65 Maidenhead - 79 Dagenham - 67 Yeovil - 72 Wealdstone - 63 Woking - 65 Weymouth - 57 Kings Lynn - 60 Barnet - 50
Looking at this, it's obvious Torquay are the most likely challengers for the title, with Stockport, Notts, Chesterfield and Hartlepool all around the same level. Stockport have the advantage of a superior goal different to the others.
Bearing in mind how shy we've been in front of goal in recent weeks, we're still currently 2nd highest scorers in the league. Behind of course, Torquay.
