Fully under the remit of 'Just for Fun...' Results from the reverse fixtures of the top 4's remaining games: Sutton 3-0 Maidenhead Torquay 1-0 Stockport Hartlepool 2-1 Aldershot The same results would make it a two-horse race between Sutton and Torquay, 81 v 80 points. Hartlepool 1-0 Sutton Barnet 0-2 Torquay Calamity! Torquay would go into the lead with 83 points to our 81 with just one game to go Sutton 1-0 Barnet But what's this? Torquay 1-2 Altrincham A come-from-behind win, with the final few minutes seen out with 10 men! Sutton have 84 points to Torquay's 83! OK, I'll wake up now. Not sure any of us could cope with needing a late goal to win AND for 10 men to hold on to an unlikely victory...

I love this post on the Torquay forum: Can't see beyond Sutton at all myself. They might have only beaten Woking 3-2 but they cruised through the game really as the opposition were hopeless, and their first two goals came from some abject defending by Gerring, especially the second as the giant buffoon stood ten yards off Wilson and virtually invited him to pass the ball into the corner of the net. Useless ****. Unfortunately Sutton did not pick any injuries up again last night. They even had the luxury of resting their leading scorer last night as he had a slight knock. He will be back for certain on Saturday. Maidenhead on their day are useful but it doesn't look to me as though they can trouble Sutton at all. Blissett is out for the season. Sam Barratt who has been doing well for them didn't play last night, and both their keepers are now injured. They also didn't field a full subs bench last night, so yet again Sutton look likely to face a seriously understrength team - they certainly do seem to get more than their fair share of luck, that's for sure. Hartlepool have gone off the boil - Bennetts gone back to Stockport, and Armstrong has a hamstring injury - that's probably accounted for 75% of the striking options. Sutton needed to be playing them a month ago, not in a weeks time. Don't think we can beat Stockport at the weekend with the players we've got available., and I reckon we will probably get 2nd or 3rd place. I wouldn't fancy us in the play offs either given that we potentially need to come through another five games with only two fit centre halves, and no back up at either full back position either. Think we would be vulnerable to an improver in the play offs - maybe Notts County or Chesterfield who probably have more fit players than we have available, and then there is Stockport as well who can't really catch Sutton now either. So think we are likely to come up short unfortunately. forum.torquayfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=13460&sid=9526aad6ada8f2c8c70d547dd9735a76&start=150

Wrong again, although in this case I would have preferred to have been right!

I'm getting stupidly excited now. Only just now starting to believe this might be happening.
If we do it, that's a league title and promotion every five years since 2011 making three in ten. That's absolutely remarkable.
If we don't, then finishing second in a league like this, with our budget and an inexperienced manager is almost as remarkable.
Whatever happens we all have so much to be proud of. This club really is special.

Happy to drive a bus to Torquay on Saturday if Barnet will park it.

So here are the highest/lowest places teams can finish
Sutton 1/2 Torquay 1/4 Stockport 2/5 Hartlepool 2/5 Wrexham 5/13 Notts 3/13 Chesterfield 5/13 Bromley 5/13 Halifax 5/13 Eastleigh 5/16 Dagenham 5/16 Solihull 5/16 Boreham Wood 10/16 Maidenhead United 5/16 Aldershot 10/17 Yeovil 10/17 Altrincham 15/18 Weymouth 17/19 Wealdstone 18/22 Woking 19/22 King's Lynn 19/22 Barnet 19/22
Take out the top 4 (who are already certain of at least a play off spot) there are still another 8 who are mathematically able to get one of those last 3 places. Also at the bottom, if there was relegation this season, even with 2 weeks to go no one of the teams playing would be mathematically relegated.
1 point for Torquay should guarantee them a play off semi space. Stockport and Hartlepool still have to battle it out. In terms of the play off spots, the match to watch out for tomorrow night is Wrexham v Notts C. A win for either side should pretty much confirm that team in a play off spot, although a defeat for either side won't especially knock them out of contention. Eastleigh play away at Aldershot but will still have another game in hand over the teams above them.

The point for Torquay yesterday allows them just enough of a chance to make Sunday uncomfortable. Am very much hoping that a thousand Us fans on song can help get the team to within sniffing distance (if Barnet don't help us on the Saturday!!). But you are quite right, Sallycat. What an incredible performance it has been by all at the club. I think the thing that amuses/bemuses me most with the Torquay whingeing is the complete absence of any acknowledgment of the relative resources and infrastructure available to them (and the rest of the top 7) and Sutton. To get this far is already one heck of an achievement. If we do it...well, that'll be a story worth reading about!

Its amazing to think that Football web pages predicted 85pts as the winning post 2 months ago.
