Let’s all of us just concentrate on Sundays game, we cannot control what happens at Torquay. Put all your energy into supporting the team and help them in getting over the line. Let’s show what this club means too us. UP THE U’S

As far as I'm aware, I don't think we've ever won a major league i.e. Isthmian and above on the last day of the season. Certainly all of the recent ones we'd won the title before the last game of the season, and going back to the two in the 80s and our win in 99, we had games to play already as champions. Even for our really long term fans I think even in 67 we may have done (although I'm very happy to be corrected by Mr Frake on that one).
I won't go through the permutations as I think we all know what needs to be done. Already we've got our highest points total and our highest final position in this league. And it is looking more and more like the play offs will all be occupied by ex-league sides, whatever happens now is an achievement beyond what we could really dream of. It really wasn't long ago when we were playing sides like Aveley, Horsham, Waltham Abbey and Ramsgate, and finishing below sides like Staines and Carshalton. That journey from the relegation of 2008 to now really has been something special. In the middle of that throw in a cup run that made us famous again for a whole new generation of fans around the world.
If we don't win the league and don't win the play offs, we'll have a 6th season at the top level of the non-league game, which is longer than we have had before. But I'm not thinking about that. All I'm thinking about is this Sunday and the following Saturday.
Just as a side note, today is the 40th anniversary of our last trip to Wembley. It wasn't the result we wanted, and although we came close twice inbetween, it's somewhere that has been missing. Now the play offs are not culminating there, it gives me even more incentive to wish us to win the league (as if it was missing before).
I'll be there on Sunday, and maybe, just maybe I'll be witnessing another league title, and one which will eclipse every other before it.

In 1967 we defeated Oxford City at The White House ground by 4 1 to win the title. It was the last match of the season. A blip in March including going out of the SSC in the sf at home to Leatherhead had threatened to derail what appeared an impregnable position but the team refocused to win the club's first Isthmian championship.
I think the blip coincided with an injury to Ted Powell. He was so influential to Sid Cann's teams of the 1960s.

I see that after today's game, Torquay's manager described their last two games as 'dress rehearsals for the play offs'. Let's hope he is right. entry level mind games. Torquay could easily put 4 or 5 past Barnet, and Hartlepool could win by 1 or 2 next Sunday, which would mean we go into the final game neck and neck. Gives BT something to get excited about anyway

I didn't post yesterday as I saved myself to watch the entire match last night, and in truth what a good match it was, well worth the popcorn 2-2 was about right, Stockport play some great football, but have a slightly weak under belly, every time Torquay got forward I consumed more popcorn. Torquay stronger at the back though. I have a feeling that Torquay will put Barnet to the sword on Saturday so those 6 goals could disappear quite quickly, so we still have a major job to do. Amazing to think just 4pts separate us from EFL football, but I remember Boreham Wood, Dover and Kingstonian so things can go wrong if you take your foot off the pedal.

I too see the goal difference as likely to become a factor we can’t rely on. Sure we both have Barnet to play but easy to see Torquay winning by four or more whilst without us getting something from Hartlepool our last game will be even more highly pressurised if it comes down to how many we have to win by.
So with all due reverence and respect to our club’s legacy the games against Leeds (x2), Arsenal, Norwich, Coventry, Middlesbrough etc (all of which I was fortunate to see live)will all fall behind the importance of Saturdays fixture if we get the right result.

Exactly. Not saying Torquay are better than we are, but the difference is they're playing Barnet at home in front of their fans and we're not.

When was the last time a match not involving Sutton Utd has collected 6 pages of contributions?
