If you're standing in certain areas of the ground pa announcements are currently irrelevant as they are inaudible.

The PA worked well when tested but it seems that it can't be heard on the Mound Terrace over the crowd noise, especially with the Goodliffe Stand there, so an additional speaker is on order.

What an odd thing to say. The NHS hasn't prioritised sportspeople and the age group of many of our players hasn't been routinely offered vaccinations for long enough for all of them to have had both doses (one, but not necessarily both). It might not be within their control. I've been wondering about this for ages. It's the players responsibility. Surely you agree that people should be vaccinated.

Of course I do, but that has nothing to do with what I said, which was that at that time not all of their age group would have had the opportunity to have both doses.

Interestingly on the radio yesterday they had the doctor from Rochdale. Although he wouldn't be pressed he did indicate that less than 20% of their squad had at least one vaccination. There are reports that as much as two thirds of Premiership players haven't been vaccinated at all. Pat Nevin was fuming yesterday.

That's not good. They will have had ample opportunity by now. I wonder what precautions their clubs are taking.

As sallycat rightly says, footballers have had enough time to get on the vaccination bandwagon now. I know the rollout took some time to reach the under 30's but there's little/no excuse not to be double vaccinated now, especially as we rapidly approach the winter months, when antibody resistance starts to become more important than ever... Pat Nevin has always been a legend in my eyes. Such an articulate, intelligent man, and his passion and knowledge about music is incredible. I loved this recent interview in The Quietus about his favourite records. I was actually humming Boundary Rider by The Go-Betweens whilst I was reading it, so I got a very pleasant surprise when I read what he had to say about them... thequietus.com/articles/30037-pat-nevin-interview-favourite-music?page=1

Sallycat mentioned percentage of squads that are vaccinated against Covid. Page 69 of yesterdays' Daily Mail newspaper was all about professional football players at the top of the game, and Covid vaccination rates. Wolves were cited as a very rare exception in that their entire first-team bubble - players, coaches and support staff -are fully vaccinated. This is down to Nuno Espirito Santo their then manager. He and their head of medical, Dr Matt Perry.
66 % of Premier League players are not yet fully vaccinated according to the Mail.

He mentioned about how the players are very lucky that they have been able to work on full pay throughout the pandemic and owe it to their team mates, staff, the public etc. to be vaccinated. He accepts that some may not want to be vaccinated for a number of reasons but 66% not being vaccinated is ridiculous.

Given that just 17% of the adult population in England has not yet been fully vaccinated and extremely few matches have been postponed (none in the PL IIRC) because of Covid I'm extremely sceptical as to its accuracy.

What is apparent is that the virus will perpetuate all the while there is such a high number of irresponsible, selfish morons.

Vaccination uptake varies with age group For the age ranges of the majority of our players (not including Dundo ) it's around 57%. When you look at those 45+, where the uptake ranges from 78%-95%, in any normal circumstance it would be safe to presume that a significant number won't have been. I don't know if footballers in general are more or less likely to have been vaccinated. (Data here - docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1klICUxemLzoQ5Hbe1fRQdyzbIW1c3-s5b2I1jkv4R_E/preview)

There has been a similar problem with social care staff (a lot of whom are also very young) although the government has got around that by making it compulsory (unless exempt) for all staff working in social care settings. It seemed the reluctance was to do with a sort of culture of low-level vaccine scepticism, which local authorities and other bodies have addressed by making a real effort to ensure people are well-informed about vaccination, what the risks actually are and why it's important.
If someone's managed to do a good job of that kind of thing at Wolves then other clubs could do the same. Maybe people from clubs like that could go and talk to players from other ones if they've cracked how to persuade them. Just because clubs are all competing against each other as businesses and on the pitch doesn't mean they can't work together when it comes to safety as that's clearly mutually beneficial.
