My word, that was extraordinary. At 2-0 down and with Vale looking very comfortable, I was fearing a bit of a hammering, but what character to come back twice from being behind. That match undoubtedly goes in to the top half dozen most memorable Sutton games I’ve ever seen.

Wow. Just wow… With the eyes of football fans on us today, due to a reduced fixture list (and the only match being played in the London area) - plus being featured on Quest and being pre-match ‘bigged up’ elsewhere - we couldn’t have picked a better game to put on such a show. A vociferous away support, plus an electric atmosphere from us U’s, made for an unforgettable afternoon. PV were the best footballing side that we have played this season, and like others have stated, at 2-0 I thought we were going to be taught a lesson. But we have resolve. To claw it back to 2-2, and then concede relatively late to go behind again, would finish off many other teams. But not ours. Those last 10 minutes were wonderful. There were also two break aways that our strikers just didn’t have the legs to finish. The U’s support at the end has never sounded louder, and that includes Leeds and Arsenal in the cup. I would rank this as one of those special games in our clubs history. There may well have been more important results. There will have been better performances. But, with the football nation looking on, up against League Two’s form side, to come back twice, and to win it at the death sends out a clear message. We are here on merit. We are true competitors. We are Sutton United. I wonder what daggers are thinking🤬

At 2-0 I think my exact words were "I hope they don't do to us what we did to Carlisle!"

Off the topic of the actual football, I shall again come bearing homemade sweet treats so please come and find me if you've had your fill of chips and had something sweet! Today I have fig rolls, caramel Viennese whirls (a cheeky little invention of mine) coconut ice and chocolate fudge. I'm easy to spot today because I have my yellow tights on 😁 Again I'm not asking for payment but if you take anything I'd appreciate if you donate whatever you can afford to my charity of the week, Sutton Night Watch suttonnightwatch.com/donate/Next time SALLY make your way to the GRANDSTAND 🏟 I would have dipped into my wallet! Hope all’s well.

I thought their fans were a little on the obnoxious side so cant blame the plsyers for giving them stick when scoring the last two.
I thought Port Vale were the best side we have faced this season, good on the ball snd keep possession well. I thought when they went 2-0 up it was a little harsh on us but after that they looked like running away with it and making it a long day for us. But Our first goal before half time was crucial.
In the second half I thought it was quite an even match and we just seemed to have more gas in the last 5 mins.
We were a bit lucky with our first goals deflection and the own goal but have earned that luck and we pressure teams well. I think Goodliffe being out did leave our defence a bit open but Rowe is a worthy deputy and of course done well firing that winner in.
Crawley away for our next league game and hopefully lots of travelling fans for another tough game.

That was some match. I would say they looked a very good side. On another day they’d win. We got a nice rub of the green today that we haven’t had previously in some games. Deflection, O.G, throw on decision for 3rd, not sure on free kick for 4th would need another look.
But what a group, what a mentality, what a day for the club. Almost 4,000 fans watched a league game. The place was brimming with people and the atmosphere for those last 10 minutes particularly will live long in the memory. Important cash into the club too and you’d think we’ve probably grabbed in a few more for the long term today.
The best away fans in terms of support/noise so far. I’d say yes not the best reaction 4th goal but emotions run high in football. In the cold light of day both sides will do well this season and it was a fantastic game.
I’m pinching myself at where we are now. But not surprised at the position this season - I thought we’d do well. Teams know how we’ll play but it’s hard to stop. The work rate is phenomenal and hard to live with.

Out of interest, when did we last play Crawley? I have a feeling it was the Isthmian League Cup in the mid nineties...gosh we've moved on a bit since then haven't we! Vale fan here. Nice to see some complimentary comments on our side and support although I thought both let our club down a little in the second half today.
Congratulations on your win today. Your side showed great character to come back from two down and then having fallen behind late to nick the game. It is a shame that they let themselves down with some disgraceful, over the top celebrating after the winner. I won’t pass comment on the referee beyond saying that he made some “interesting” decisions in the second half that sadly had influence on the result.
Equally as disappointing as your sides response to the winner was the behaviour of some of our “fans” for which I would apologise. I took my five year old to her first game today and was as disappointed with our fans behaviour as I was the result.
I’m sure you will be more than comfortable in securing a second season of league football showing that level of commitment and character.

Fantastic result. I doubt we'll play many teams better that Vale. I thought they had us at 3-2, and didn't feel that would have been any disgrace to us. But, fortunately, our players don't think that way. Not one bit. This also sends a message to any decent team who play us and go a couple up that they can't feel in any way comfortable about it. Wonderful, charged, atmosphere. A real day to remember. I think I might have squeezed my mate's shoulder a bit too hard at our 4th goal. Oh well.
Yeah, what was going on with the PV bench? They seemed mighty upset about something but I couldn't get the gist of it.
Btw, Sarah; loved the yellow tights + brown boots combo. Simple but clever (oxymoron). I do like it when people dress with imagination. Might have been a trfile warm, though...

Thanks for those complimentary words Saintvaliant and honest observations. I believe that I have read your post-match post on the Port Vale forum and can only commiserate with you and your daughter’s experience among your own fans. Yes, our players were foolish to over celebrate in front of you, and as much as ‘the heat of the moment’ can be used as an excuse, it is not usually our way. As for the ref, rest assured, there will be times when we are on the receiving end of such a performance. Thanks for coming down, your support was wonderful, even if a few spoiled it for you a little. You will be up there competing for promotion come May, I’m sure.

We last played Crawley competitively in an FA Cup 4th qualifier in 1995. Sutton won 4-1 setting up a tie with Kidderminster Harriers in the first round. We have played Crawley in friendly matches since

Oh yes, that's right! I should have said competitively - wasn't counting friendlies.
