A couple of lasts happened on this day in 2011 as we were presented with the Isthmian League Championship trophy and shield.
It was our (to date) last home game in the Isthmian League system and our (to date) last competitive game against carshalton athletic. Whilst we have played the bobbins in a few friendly matches in the intervening 11 years, we haven’t met in league or cup since.

On this day in 1968 I saw my first ever Sutton game. We had moved to Cheam in 1968 but Dad worked alternate Saturdays and so struggled to find time to take me to a game. However, having walked to the ground a week or two previously to check it out we went to the game v Oxford City on Monday 29/4/68. Goals by Larry Pritchard and Dave Hutchins gave us a 2-0 win. We went to virtually every game together for the next 19 years.
In 1986 we were locked in battle with Yeovil for the Isthmian League title. On the 24th we had won at Wokingham and on the Saturday beat Harrow 2-0. On Monday we lost 1-0 in a poor game away to Croydon and the very next night (29th) we travelled to Walthamstow, winning 1-0 on a dustbowl thank to a Paul McKinnon goal. Less than 48 hours later we were in action again. Did someone mention fixture congestion ? (9 league games in 16 days)

Tuesday 10 May 1988 witnessed the “2nd Annual Charity Challenge Match” between Sutton United Supporters and Sutton United Veterans in aid of the Royal Marsden Hospital Children’s Neurological Ward. Entry was £1.
The Veterans team was selected from: Dave Roffey, Glyn Garfield, Derek Gamblin, Ted Powell, Keith Waldon, Barry Steer, Alan Ives, Larry Pritchard, Dave Hutchins, Graham Dennis, Micky Mellows, Tony Coppin, Keith Blunt, Roy Osborne, Alan Gillett, Rodney Brookes, Ted Shepherd, Ian Meekin and Trevor Bladon.
The Sutton Supporters selected from: Chris Vagg, Mark Frake, Kevin Thackeray, Adrian Barry, Stephen Roffey, John Clarke, Colin Parker, Mark Kidd, Dave Farebrother (captain again), Ian Thomson, Alan Finnan, Kris Ball, Tony Cove, Clive Soper and Steve King.
The referee was Ian Cripps with his assistants being Tony Dolbear [were you injured at the time Tony?] and Clive Barber.
The pen pictures included comments such as: Mark Frake “fitness fanatic” Ian Thomson whose “pace and skill will be a surprise to many, especially if he displays any!” Tony Cove “iron man of the side who has gone a little rusty” Steve King “the secret weapon … that no-one has yet worked out what it is”
Unfortunately I do not remember the final score.
While on this topic: Tuesday 12 May, 1987 was the first Charity Challenge Match between Sutton United Supporters and Sutton United Veterans in aid of the Royal Marsden Hospital Children’s Ward Extension. Entry was £1.
The Veterans team was selected from Dave Roffey, Glyn Garfield, Ted Shepherd, Ted Powell (captain), Rodney Brookes, Barry Steer, Alan Ives, Larry Pritchard, Dave Hutchins, Graham Dennis, Ian Meekin, Tony Coppin, Keith Blunt, Roy Osborne, Alan Gillett and Keith Waldon.
The Supporters team was aided by Trevor Roffey in goal with Mark Frake, John Clarke, Dave Smith, Adrian Barry, Dave Farebrother (captain of course!), Mark Kidd, Tony Cove, Tony Dolbear, Ian Thomson and Alan Finnan in the scheduled starting eleven backed up by Kris Ball, Ian Bell, Mel Grundy, Steve King, Colin Parker, Julian Rozario, Graham Starns and Kevin Thackeray.
Among the pen pictures of the Sutton United Supporters were: Mark Frake “A gentleman among players showing endless patience and understanding towards his team mates” Adrian Barry “A player with no surname” Dave Farebrother “makes up the bulk of the defence” Tony Dolbear “whose shooting ability has to be seen to be believed” Kris Ball “likes to have a shot at goal – usually his own”
Julie Tunney was the “physio”.
The referee was Ian Cripps ably assisted by Clive Barber and Clive Soper.
The game ended 1-1.
My apologies for any misnamed participants – I’ve copied the details from the original programmes.
If any of the participants would like a copy of the original programme(s) [double side A4] perhaps I could arrange something via Dave Farebrother as I do not live near Sutton any more? I have not asked him yet however! [Ian Cripps]

Thanks for posting that Ian. I had forgotten just how strong that vets side was. In the first match, the 1-1 draw, we were exhausted at half time, players like Ted and Larry just moved the ball so quickly. And yet when we came off at half-time one of the spectators remarked that it was the slowest game he had ever seen. Mark Kidd scored for the supporters but our goalie kept us in it. (good practice for 20 months later !) We nearly won it, I actually fluked a left foot shot over a bemused Dave Roffey but our Press Secretary had wandered offside !

Probably assuming it was unlikely to go anywhere near the goal so it wouldn't matter.

I'm not sure who was more surprised, Dave Roffey or me !

May 16 1981 we sadly lost 1-0 to Bishops Stortford in the FA Trophy Final at the old Wembley. It was a poor match. The old ground had cheap wooden seats that were rather uncomfortable to sit on.

May 23rd 2021 - Sutton United 3 Hartlepool United 0. Perhaps the most momentous day in the history of Sutton United so far as the U’s secured the National League title and promotion to the Football League for the first time ever.

I see from the timing of your post Jared that you were determined to get this one in before anyone else did! Undisputably a red letter date in the club's history.

Bolton fan here. This is sort of related to past games and may be of interest. After we finally beat Burton on Tuesday, there are now only 3 teams that BWFC have played on two or more occasions without getting a win: Marseilles, Sporting Lisbon and ....Sutton United! You are in exalted company

They did play Sutton Coldfield Town 30 years ago in the FA Cup, but won.
