On This Day : 3rd of February 1959 - Ritchie Valens, Buddy Holly, and J.P. Richardson board a flight to Fargo, North Dakota. The plane never reaches its destination and crashes near Clear Lake, Iowa. With three major singers gone, the day is nicknamed, "The Day the Music Died." Do you happen to know how many Athenian League appearances they managed to get for us combined, Billy?

Actually, I for one, welcome something a bit different on this thread, rather than just a list of what games Sarah went to each time. No offence intended!

Then you won't mind my post amberchoc.
4 Feb
FA Trophy second round, 1989. 1-1 draw v Bishop Auckland (we lost the replay 2-1). Notable to for the first appearance of Efan Ekoku, who came on as a sub.

I hope I haven’t put Sarah off from her daily postings now, but, to be honest, when you dreamt up this thread and started it off, I was under the impression, false or otherwise, that it’d be for the more notable occasions in our history (rather than say, a humdrum 1-1 draw at Bishops Stortford on a wet Tuesday evening in the Ryman Premier!). Your reference to Efan certainly helps your post meet my own criteria. I can’t believe it’s been over 30 years since he left us to start his journey in the professional ranks. I was a big fan and I saw him several times playing for Bournemouth, Norwich and Wimbledon as well.

I was always under the impression that it was for putting up any Sutton related on this day moment. What may be mundane for some, others may find interesting. Certainly some of the "less red letter day" moments Sarah and others have put up have reminded me of players lost in the midst of time or people's memories of that match.
Another memory of Efan that was Tony Dolbear on the PA system audibly questioning himself when he announced the team line ups, almost said in a tone of "have I got that right"?

Mind you, if Billy’s true to himself, he’ll be planning to spring on us another gem from world events this coming Sunday....

9th February 1974 saw one of my favourite Sutton memories. FA Amateur Cup 3rd Round (last 16), away to Spennymoor United.
The Supporters’ coach left around 1:00 am (I remember staying up and being allowed to watch a Dracula film for the first time) but it was overbooked. A supporter named Norman helped out by taking passengers all the way to County Durham in his Robin Reliant.
We had an average team at the time and Spennymoor had never been beaten at home by a southern club, as they never stopped telling us in the clubhouse before the game.
Anyway, Dave Leonard gave us the first half lead but after the interval we were under so much pressure that it made the defence of the Alamo seem like an offensive manoeuvre. As Mark F said recently, reserve keeper Ian Stuart made perhaps the best save in club history from a close range header by his own defender Alan Gillett. Then, with the clock ticking down, we broke the shackles and Don Butterfill found himself racing clear on goal. Don didn’t score many but he made no mistake, 2-0 and a rare memory for the ages from the mid-70s was complete.
Afterwards a brick found its way through the window of the team coach, but it didn't bother our team too much as it was a local coach firm taking us to the airport for a flight home alongside the players from Wycombe Wanderers, who I think had lost at Blyth Spartans that afternoon.

I was allowed to watch that Dracula film too, although had to leave for the coach before it finished.
Norman wasn't the only casualty of the over booking as Wally Edwards gave his seat up and went home.
Ian Stuart wasn't our reserve 'keeper he was first choice. U's had 'keeper issues after Alan Thomas buggered off to Dulwich. John Harding was the reserve keeper back then.
A bad back prevented Stuart from finishing the season and I think he had to retire from playing. He lived in Matlock Crescent opposite kitman, Clive.

9 February 2008 and Steffan Ball, a striker brought in by Ernie Howe to boost our fight against relegation from the Blue Square South, as the National League South was then, scored after 14 minutes of his debut against Thurrock to give us a 1-0 win, engendering real optimism that we might get out of the hole we were in. We then proceeded to lose nine of the next eleven league games. The other two were 0-0 draws, including one at Dorchester where if I remember correctly our recent signing managed to clear the crossbar from virtually under it in the last minute.

Came with high hopes. Left with shattered dreams. Am I right in remembering we paid a 5 figure fee for him? When the local Guardian actually used to report on us, here's a quick Steffan Ball blast for you all www.yourlocalguardian.co.uk/sport/2078268.sutton-striker-steffan-i-can-be-hero/
