That Woking game is the only one I can remember where we have benefitted from two own goals by the same player - former Carshalton defender Eddie Saunders, who had scored them both by the 37th minute and was then booked in the 40th. I remember both own goals as being spectacular finishes

It was also the second time that I had seen Woking give us two own goals in a game, as they scored all three goals in our 2-1 win there in the 1977-78 season. Different players on that occasion though.

Meikayla Moore of New Zealand bettered that the other day by scoring the perfect hat-trick of own goals in the first half against the USA. She was then substituted before half time!

March 3
1990 - a 2-0 home loss to Cheltenham. Funny old season that one, where at home we won more than eventual champions Darlington, but a pretty dire away record (5 wins out of 21) meant we finished 8th. In that season however, the majority of the clubs did really well at home but poorly away. Runcorn, for example, who finished 3rd won fewer away than relegated Chorley.

A good one from 2014 today. 2-1 down at Bromley with ten minutes to go, but Dean Sinclair equalised, then both he and Craig Dundas scored in the last couple of minutes to produce a 4-2 win.
And in 1978 Larry Pritchard scored his 100th Sutton goal in a 4-1 win at Boreham Wood. Peter Kemp, Ricky Kidd and Peter Mills also scored.

Although not a ‘memory’, I can just picture the meeting, 124 years ago today, in one of those upstairs rooms.....

This will be the script for the opening sequence of the film a few years from now:
Young Jack Goossens, distracted by the clippity-clop of horses hooves, glances outside at the carriage driver going about his daily routine. "Any other business, gentleman?”, enquired the impeccably-dressed, moustachioed man chairing the meeting. "Then let the records state that the representatives of Sutton Guild Rovers Football Club and Sutton Association Football Club agree to merge and form a new club, which shall be called Sutton United".

Can I direct it?
On that though what Sutton are doing now, as in last season winning the National League and potentially getting promoted to League One, is akin to Leicester winning the Premiership.
In fact, I think the achievement is more remarkable.
As to on this day though, getting back on thread I've no idea what happened. I do miss Sallycat's reminiscing though!

My bad.....I indicated last month that Billy's tangential digressions offered some welcome variety to the thread. As a suitable punishment I think I ought to self-flagellate forthwith!

As the camera zooms in, through the pub window a young rapscallion can be seen approaching the carriage, he appears to be telling the driver that he can't bring the horses into the mews without a permit.

Was it?
If that is the case I blame the fact that I was blindfolded.
And my apologies are whole hearted.
Just looking forward to the 16th March!

And besides, Shinners didn't open for business until 1935. There was a home furnishings store called Rhoades in the High Street.....down the bottom where Asda is now.....
Historical details are important if this film's going to be a success!
