It has just occurred to me that aside from a technicality we have now beaten 4 FA Cup winners in cup competitions-Coventry Wimbledon Portsmouth and now Wigan And Leeds

Well that was a fun day. Got home at 2.45am (wonder if Mr Frake is home yet!). Well done to everyone who made the trip and of course to the players and staff. What an amazing achievement. There is plenty of excitement in the town and beyond so it should be a fantastic day and hopefully we can attract some more regular fans. Thought the Wigan fans were class. Some lovely comments on various social media sites. Bristol Rovers fans should take note. And their management too! Wigan manager Leam Richardson delayed his after match interviews to personally go to the away dressing room (which of course at Wigan is at the other side of the ground) to personally deliver a bottle of champagne to our team and congratulate them. Seems like class runs through the DNA of their club.

If we hadn't been thrown out of the Surrey Senior Cup we could have been on for the treble. I forgot to ask about this, how comes this happened?

Just got back in. What a day, what a night. Going to enjoy watching it all again on the telly later. Fantastic scenes at the end ! I walked back to Wigan with a part time Wigan supporter who wished us well in the final.

41 bloody years. Two thirds of my life.
And what a way to get there. A brilliant 100 minutes of desire, heart, skill and bloody-mindness to overcome a L1 club chasing promotion to the Championship on their own patch. This was a step up for U's and at times they had to stretch their limbs that little bit more to keep the home attacks at bay. Wigan was full of quick thinking, fleet footed footballers but Sutton, to a man, stood up to the challenge. U's also played some lovely football at times, not least for the goal that Will R tucked away with great composure. Dean B-Omar's head-Donovan's flick, Will's finish. Fantastic. Both sides had gone close before, their fella pushing the ball quite wide of the mark when a goal looked certain and Joe K almost extending his goalscoring run when his header found the foot of a post.
McLean equalised with a powerful strike (interestingly, under the current rules, VAR would have disallowed both goal because the ball struck the scorers lower arm in both moves - fortunately we don't have it).
Second half both sides missed chances, U's had the most but as Wigan changed their side and United legs began to understandably tire, it was the home team pushing and U's repelling brilliantly.
So to pens. Other than the three that were saved, this was a quality penalty kick competition. Considering the prize, especially for U's, there was great confidence in the kicks. I don't get too excited when the oppo miss (unless it's the last kick of course!) because U's could also miss so it wasn't until that second save by penalty king, Dean B that my emotions were fully realised. Yes, a slight watering in one eye, then a descent down the steep steps shouting 41 years, 41 years to join the throng in the lower area of the stand. Apparently I (obviously one of many) got picked up by Sky; I apologise to those at home if I spoilt your evening.
A fantastic squad effort; a result right up there with the club's finest achievements. What a group of players and what superb management of them.
Me and KBB have often discussed how much we want to go back to Wembley with Sutton but never felt it would happen. A couple of hopes dashed by second leg capitulations in the FA Trophy the closest. Now this. I have often stated that those who have been watching the club for the last 60 years (mine is 52) have been totally spoilt but the last six years even with an interruption for an annoying pandemic, have been truly amazing.
There is much bad stuff going on in the world at the moment but in one little corner of south London, there is the distraction of a little football club overcoming the odds to keep making football history and doing so through hard work, honest endeavour and a lot of skill. We should be thankful.
And thanks to Matt and everybody involved. I hope you enjoy the occasion (please bloody win though!!) but mostly thanks for giving us die-hards, the welcome newies, and the bandwagon jumpers (welcome too) a chance to see SUFC at Wembley again. I never thought the day would come.

Oh and in answer to JR, I got back home just before 5am. Had about 3 hours sleep but at least I wasn't up for work like some have been. Fair play to them.

Leeds United? Apologies saw that this had already been noted Another technicality, we did beat Crystal Palace (albeit the under 21's)

The Cup Final has been PLAYED at Crystal Palace - does that count as a technicality?
