May I have the privilege of starting the match thread for our fixture against Swindon Town on 14th Feb. I'm doing this in the hope that our luck changes against them as they are beginning to be our bogey team.....which I'm not happy about due to living there! I'm told that Jonny Williams went off with a head injury on Saturday, but have heard nothing further, we could do with him not playing. I think Goody will relish coming up against Charlie Austin. I once again live in the hope that I can return home after the match and enjoy sharing with my Swindon Town supporting friends, how we beat them!!

Unlike Hartlepool who we have a pretty good record against, Swindon seem to be our "Maidenhead". In every meeting we've had (going back to 1981!), they've beaten us by 1 goal, with Sutton scoring every time yet Swindon scoring one more. The games themselves have been pretty entertaining, with the home fixture last year having Swindon utterly dominate us in the first half, with us starting to claw back to their 10 men, and last seasons away game with a hugely depleted squad (which had Stewart Nelson in goal) containing a centre midfield duo of Adam Lovatt in one of his first league games and Omar Bugeil playing in an unfamiliar position, and with Enzio playing up from with Bennett, and only able to name 3 outfield subs, and still managing to come back from 1-0 down. And of course most recently, our first game following the death of Queen Elizabeth II where it was a victim of our first half of the season "let's lose the game in the last minute" pattern we developed (which happened at Doncaster and Gilligham to name others).
Swindon have of course have a new manager in Jody Morris, who currently has a 100% losing record as manager with Swindon, and they'll be without Hepburn-Murphy, sent off for a straight red at Newport 2 games ago.
Like all of our previous encounters, we're playing Swindon on a weekday in the evening. I can't think of any side we've played as much who we've never played on a Saturday/day match.

Williams is out with concussion. Could also do with beating this lot to get one over the neighbours!

Starting with this one, five of our next seven league games are at home. That looks like an opportunity.
Swindon are above us in the league table but below us in the form table. Their results are inconsistent; in their last five away games they've won at Barrow and Northampton but lost at Crawley, Colchester and Newport. On Saturday they lost 2-0 at home to Doncaster (our opponents next Saturday). This just might be a good time to play them.

They don't appear to be the force they were. Really looking forward to this one.

Well they have beat us in all the games so have to say they are a bogey team, but I only really recall one of those wins being due to out playing us which I think was the first league meeting at our place. It was the first time a team made me feel like we were in league 2.
The other game was when we had a very depleted team and still gave them a good game. And at their place this year I recall us being unlucky not to get a point after their late winning goal. So perhaps we are due to get the rub of the green this time?
I don't like to predict, but am going for a 2-1 win for us.

Trivia question for you.
How many managers have Swindon had since Matt was appointed manager in May 2019?
For a bonus, how many managers have they had in the time that we had 3 (Dos/Baird/Gray), so from May 2008.

Perhaps he needs a concussion protocol following an injury sustained reporting on WPL games - I always have a smile when I hear him on the radio and say to myself " he's one of us" 😊

Surely we are more bogey than bogied? In the EFL - regarding the teams that we've played more than once there are more teams that can't beat us than we can't beat ....Carlisle Mansfield Northampton AFC Wimbledon Harrogate. Who else can't we beat ? Who else can't beat us?

Who else can't we beat ? Who else can't beat us? We've yet to beat Bradford and Walsall so far, but at least we've managed a point off them. And of course we didn't manage to beat Bristol Rovers last season over 3 games. I'm hoping however than tonight is our best opportunity to take Swindon out of this equation!

I wouldn't call Swindon a bogey team. Generally when we have played them they have just performed really well. Not like it used to be with, say, Maidenhead when it seemed no matter how badly they played we'd play worse. There was always a sense of "oh it's them again, we'll lose" but I don't necessarily get that with Swindon - maybe it's just me. Anyway, I'm sure we're capable of getting a result tonight.

Possibly not beaten Salford yet as a league club (?) and of course they pinched 6 points this season 🤦♂️
