Our winless run at Barrow continues, but at least we got an away point and kept another clean sheet. 61 away fans made it to Holker Street, enduring a dank and dismal Cumbrian afternoon, though shouldn't be travelling home too unhappy.
This was a physical contest with defences largely in control. Barrow edged the match on scoring opportunities, Jack Rose having to make a couple of smart saves. We came closest through the unlikely source of Sam Hart, his shot deflected wide.
Coby Rowe didn't score today, but was a rock at the heart of our defence. Enzio was our brightest spark going forward.
Nine games unbeaten now and we strengthen our grip on 9th place. Tuesday's match promises to be interesting!

Dismal game but good point. Thought our quality from wide areas was pretty poor on the day. Our best chance was a breakaway before half time where we went from 3 on 2 to not even getting close to a shot off, summed up the day going forwards. We broke well on occasion 2nd half but the final ball was often atrocious. We defended pretty well and to be fair conditions looked tough. Their best chance came courtesy of the ref missing a clear haul down of Ajiboye having wrestled away from the defender. That was a good save and one time the keepers were tested.

Having seen “Matts” interview, you can see the conditions, wind rain snow. So a point is a good result at a difficult place to go, so well done to the lads for grinding out the result and the sixty one who made the journey. ⚽️⚽️⚽️

The positives from yesterday's trip to the footballing outpost that is Barrow were and in no order of merit.
1/ it wasn't postponed when we got to Preston. 2/ it wasn't abandoned with 15 minutes left 3/ in a nod to the above 2, we got it out the way 4/ we didn't concede a last minute goal 5/ and as a result of point 4, we got a well earned point 6/ I got home at the time I expected
It was windy, the pitch had been cleared of snow making it a difficult surface, and it was bloody freezing (except to the local lad who had attended in a pair of shorts).
Well done to both sets of players for their collective effort in very difficult circumstances. The match may have lacked in quality but honest endeavour it didn't.
The negatives were
1/ Northern Rail 2/ as I was awake for 24 hours I believe yesterday may have decreased my life expectancy. By a day or so anyway
You're welcome.

Well done to all those who went to Barrow to support the team !
But I would go three hundred miles And I would go three hundred more Just to be the fan who went 600 miles To watch a 0-0 draw

Billy, one of the best Sutton games I ever saw ended 0-0. It’s fair to say it wasn’t yesterday’s game.

As someone who has done 700 miles this weekend to go to Barrow and then stay up north to go to Man Utd v Saints and watch another 0-0 draw I am not taking any offence from Billy's comment.

For some of us, away trips are about more than just the football.
As well as watching Sutton play, I ticked off four pubs in the 2023 Good Beer Guide and, at RSPB Leighton Moss, added two species to my 2023 bird list. 🙂
Even for those without hobbies to indulge, the views of snow-capped mountains across Morecambe Bay may have made the journey worthwhile. 🌞

Speaking as one of the 60 odd who went up to Barrow, it was pretty obvious to me that the team and the management appreciated every single one of us who made the journey. Would I do it again? You bet.
We usually travel to Barrow with hope rather than expectation, but we came back with a point, which again doesn't happen too often. I thought Enzio had a cracking game, as did Kizzi. A hard fought draw from two teams that were pretty evenly matched. Don't lose on Tuesday and we've gone 2 months without a defeat, and only 2 defeats in 4 months, which will cover 19 games. That's a huge achievement for a club of our stature.

Glad you enjoyed your trip Mr Aleman. Bird watching might be a touch harder today, it’s pouring up in The Lakes. Highlight of yesterday was discovering restaurant with awful selection of fizz beer also served Old Peculier in bottles. AND the chef was a Leeds fan so we briefly chatted about a certain FA Cup tie.

If I thought football was only about the number of goals in a game or that the quality of a match should be measured by the scoreline (which admittedly I probably did before I knew very much about football) then I certainly wouldn't have bothered going to Barrow or anywhere else like that. Fortunately I know enough to know that isn't the case, because if I'd refused to travel far just in case a match ended 0-0, I'd have missed out on some of the best footballing contests I've ever witnessed.
Don't pretend you know what a match is going to be like before it even kicks off. You never, ever know what unlikely fixture may produce the most entertaining game of all time (sadly it wasn't this one, but the point is it might have been and nobody could have known for sure until it was over).
After all, you don't travel to Barrow for a 0-0 draw, because you can't know if it's going to be 0-0. You travel to support your team whatever the result, and enjoy the tantalising possibility that MAYBE it will be one of the best matches you've ever seen. But even when it isn't, if like me you really love your club and have found yourself a home and a family within it, you'll always get something out of being at any game regardless of its result.
